Predictably, that represents a lot of the responses (to the original pic of this thread) I’ve seen on social media

If you look at that pic without knowing the seating patterns, it is a fair question.

Most fans know that this is the side no one sits on. Unfortunately the rest of the world doesn't, and the perception is UAB pulled a remarkable play in front of an empty stadium. We know that is untrue, but UAB needs to do something about that perception.

i agree...when i see highlights from other teams with empty stands, i wonder "is that the empty side?"---but im well aware that most people dont. even with this perspective, my first thought is usually "man, look how empty."

its a battle we'll always fight in legion field. i dont know how to fix (or at least help) it. one approach is to say that perception doesnt matter, and then point to attendance figures (where we lead the conference). while i think that is a reasonable(ish) approach, i think that an active and intelligent athletic department can come up with a better solution.

I seem to recall from a few years ago someone saying that the A/V hookups at Legion Field are all on the home side so the visitorr's side is predominately shown. Don't know how acccurate or relevant that is nowadays with wireless and other communications technological advances.

Post a few photos on social media of our side of the stadium during these games, and that may change that perception a bit. We showed up.

While it is true that there are already pre-run A/v Hook-ups on the "home" side, the issue is not running other hookups, the issue is that the cameras are on that side because it is the West side of the stadium, and so for afternoon/evening games the sun is to the back of the cameras on that side. If you put the cameras on the other side the cameras would be looking into the sun and the picture quality would be horrible.

RE: The Block
Tbe real issue is camera platforms and getting new AV hookups and cabling installed. The cameras were on that side for all the USFL games. The cameras were on the camera platforms on the old upper deck. There was talk of building platforms on the other side initiated by Mackin but the city did not want to do it and if we want them we have to pay for them and that includes having it engineered. You can't just throw up some 2x4s. Someone has to pay for it. The city won't.

Without getting into the weeds I was involved in this while we were doing other remedial work at LF

That's one check off on my Bamanblazerfan Bingo card. When I saw the initial post, I was expecting a comment from you regarding Daniel Moore. The only other comment referencing this game I am expecting from you regards the 1972 Iron Bowl and Punt Bama Punt. Maybe you have already made the correlation and I missed it.

What a camera shot of a football game looks like when the camera is staring at the Sun above the play.

I hear you. I can only tell you what was discussed because we were involved. Seemed to be ok for the USFL games. Somehow those 80s cameras made it work. Btw. That picture is of a different camera angle than you would have on a stand at LF up high.

It isn't happening because No one will pay for it so it's a moot point anyway.

The NBC cameras for XFL games were on the east side in 2001.

No, they were on west side. I know this because the XFL did what UAB should be doing, they made tickets cheaper on the east side so that more people would buy tickets over there and then the stands would look fuller on TV. They put the Bolts bench on that side for the same reason.

FYI, Daniel Moore is a professional sports artist and his company has done many paintings of sports moments not involving Bama. In fact, he has had to fight Bama in court for the rights to paintings that involved their team when Bama sued him.

BTW, I was in the north endzone seats (sec X) in 1972 (the year I got my MA from UAB) and saw close up when those two punts were blocked and run into that endzone to win that game. Did you know that the Bama punter - Greg Gant - and the Auburn DB who scored - David Langner - were senior class team mates at Woodlawn High School?
