Thanks Mike! Still a very strangely officiated game...

There was another bizarre mistake that I can't remember as well.

I didn't hear what he said but from your description I have an idea of what he was getting at. With the score 17-15 a TD plus the extra point would make it 24-15, a nine point game that would require Eastern to score twice, whereas a FG made it 20-15 so EMU could win the game with a TD (but not a FG) on their last drive----so Toledo needed a TD to put them away because a field goal left the door open for an EMU win if they could score a TD. Candle justifiably did not have enough confidence in his running game to go for the TD on 4th down. He probably felt a FG would give give his defense a better chance to prevent a loss and besides not making the TD on 4th and goal could lead to a loss of momentum while firing up EMU. If he still had Kerrin and Mancz on the O-line and Hunt in the backfield he may have opted to go for the TD on 4th and short.

He later corrected himself, I believe, saying basically "Oh, yeah, if we don't take the three and don't score all they need to do is get close to win" I could see going for 6 if there was three minutes left or something but they were on a short clock.

there was 2:58 left after we kicked the field goal, so I see your point 03-wink

Like I said..... actually I thought it was much less but clearly a field goal ensured they couldn't beat us on a kick, so saying it was useless was odd.

It was the correct decision to take the field goal. My only concern was we already missed some kicks and had an issue with placing the ball for the kick with Thompson out.

https://syndication.bleacherreport.com/a...d.amp.html

Jay Feely was awful all day.

How in the world did he think that kick was good, or went off the crossbar? You would think an NFL kicker should be able to decipher this information. My 10 year old daughter can, so...

Also, if one had been playing a game that required taking a shot every time he said "back shoulder fade", that person would be dead this morning. I swear he's trying to make "back shoulder fade" today's version of "bubble screen". Every damn out route was a back shoulder fade in his eyes.

I would suggest that he stick to talking about kicking, but... yeah.

In his defense, I think he was trying to make the call from the press tower using just his view and not a monitor. Made it tougher to see the angle even though it was way off the mark. You would have thought his partner would have bailed him out before they went to commercial break, but not sure what he could have said that would not have embarrassed him - like "what game are you watching?"

It's been a long time since I posted on here. I was sitting near the top of section 3, close to the press box, and my brother in law and I both thought the ball hit the crossbar and went through. When the officials signaled no good, we really wondered what we saw. Now that I see the video and see it was not even close, I really wonder what we saw. I could have sworn there was a deflection of the ball as if it hit the crossbar.
