He's still around. There's a Saturday morning show in Lexington he calls in to.All he ever talks about is Tennessee football and recruiting.

Isn't he a shut-in or something?

Yea. I worked in LEX for a while. He was a legend - but not beloved by all. Never met him, but I believe his story was a hard life lived of dependency destroyed a lot of brain cells.

That little ESPN affiliate FM Station in Parker's Crossroads (Lexington) 96.5 once had a show called "Trivia Blitz". Two guys that sounded like a country version of Wayne's World asking callers sports questions. I wish I could find a YouTube link.

I live in Lexington, Steve is a die hard Vol fan, although once Jack Eaton drove up here and ate lunch with him at Wendy's. His is not a story of dependency, but rather he has several factors that make him special needs. And yes he is pretty much a shut-in. Still calls in 96.5 most Saturday's to talk UT football.

I have not listened to Cheap Seats (sports talk show) on WNWS 101.5 in Jackson TN in a while --- but he was wall-to-wall there in the early 2010's. All Vols 24/7, of course.

A recording of Steve reciting (in his standard drawl) "Hello? ... Who'm uh talkin' to please" was played for each caller to note that his/her turn was ready.

RE: Anybody remember Steve from Lexingon?
Ahh, the "legends" of Memphis sports talk. Back in the days of Rainman and Budro, Dennis, Tony & the Menacing Horde, Jack & Jeff just "arguing to be arguing", SuperSport 1030 am

Steve in Lexington -"hey guyyys, awww doin' well, just wanted to ask a querrrstion about yewww tee recruitin'"

Mary in midtown - sounded like she had just smoked a pack of Virginia Slims every time she called. They even put an small article about her in the CA when she died.

Sandy- called in from the bowling alley or somewhere in Covington to give insane picks on Vernon's show

Barbara- another old lady UT fan "Jammmaaaal Lewis"

LA Daniel- every call about the Lakers, UCLA, or how great California is

Tony the mailman- calls every show, every day

Zorack the giant evil preying mantis

Steeler Joe
40 point George
Singing Razorback
Melvin
Rebel - used to always have to do a Hotty Toddy on every call
Special Joe- he's a better handicapper than Rainey

and the worst one of all------------

Miami Dan- called Weinburger every day during the U's hey-day and Jack would say "this is the best/ worst caller we've ever had" depending on what Dan's hot take that day was.

I totally disagree that Miami Dan was the worst --- Louisville Richard was by far. Who was #2 is the only debate.

For that I nominate "Bill from Southaven". He was absolutely atrocious and would inject UFOs and black helicopters when he could.

Why would y'all hate on a former Tiger like Louisville Richard? Good guy. He was a regular at Tennstud's Saturday Football Extravaganzas. Just ask Cletus and btiger.

Good stuff. Haven't remembered LA Daniel, 40-point George, Miami Dan in years.

There was also the drunk guy that would call in on George's Sunday night tv show and make fun of Lapides.

George's Sunday night TV show was classic. Best call ever was when Lapides had RC on and some guy called and asked if they were gay lovers.

Yankee Rick was another one who used to call all the time back in the 90's. Met him at a golf scramble around 1999 or 2000. He showed up with black high tops, cutoff blue jeans, and a tank top. I'm not sure they would have let him on the course normally, but he was actually treated like a minor celebrity because of his calls to Mike Fleming, Lapides, etc.

Louisville Richard = worst

Who was that guy from midtown who had an insane laugh? He would call shows and just start laughing.
