4) MAC
5) SBC

There is a HUGE gap...qualitatively...right now between the AAC and all the other "g" conferences.
Aresco when he became AAC commish said the conference was particularily hopeful on the potential of the Florida schools. This year they are both in the Top 25.

For now. There is still a lot of football left to play. I believe both are perfectly capable of losing before then end of the season. I honestly think San Diego State is more likely to finish undefeated, and get the access bowl.

G5 Conference Rankings?
Yep, and the MWC will get the big bowl game again. Also, the MAC is 3rd at best.

The MWC has a team in the top 25 as well.

I don't know... the MWC and C-USA also have wins over the Cartel. Yes, the MWC has some terrible bottom feeders this season, but every conference does. Remember Bowling Green is 0-5, with a loss to an FCS program. And at 1-4, Kent State has yet to beat an FBS team. Only 4 of the MAC's 12 teams are above .500. In my opinion, right now the MAC just isn't worthy of a #2 ranking.

The MAC isn't good at the top this year, but we don't have as many bottom feeders as usual. BG and Kent are awful but there's a bit of space between them and the next tier up with the likes of Akron and Ball State. We'd be in the argument for two if we had another team step up like WMU last year or if we pulled out a couple of close losses (e.g. NIU vs BC or SDSU, Miami vs UC or Marshall, EMU vs Kentucky, Ball State vs Illinois, Akron vs Troy).

Sagarin doesn't mean much this early in the year, but it does have the MVC 3rd, ahead of the MAC. Also has SEC 5th.

that's the biggest problem the American faces. Most years it will be the strongest of the non-contract conferences, but the teams at the top will knock off each other enough so that they lose the access slot. Nightmare scenario, hopefully they'd get a contract spot soon. They'd be the conference most likely to (not a guarantee of course), especially with Boise having fallen off a bit.

Besides, isn't it better to be G5 than P5? Think about it: G comes before P in the alphabet. G stands for Warren G and OG and $1,000 and a note in the scale. P stands for pee. Checkmate, Pee5 fans.

MAC is 3rd. Our bottom teams are crap, but our middle-to-top teams are getting the job done.

Consider the MAC. All of our teams compete with similar (low) budgets. The top teams, however, are usually pretty good and can beat each other. Last year (in the Championship game) Ohio U came within a TD or so of beating WMU. That would've eliminated WMU from the Access Bowl. Toledo was also very good. Even the year NIU went to the Orange Bowl, they had a loss to Iowa and only had beat Toledo by a TD.

Consider the ACC. The National Champion Clemson Tigers had only one loss - to Pitt. Similar situations happen to Bama.

Last year, the AAC's West Division Champion Navy lost to an Air Force team that finished 4th in their own division and a 7-7 .500 Hawaii team.

The Champion, Temple, had a loss to Army. Army had a loss to the MAC's Buffalo and North Texas.

The whole "the AAC teams don't have a chance at getting the Access Bowl because they beat each other" argument is total garbage.
The AAC's problem is their top teams get bad losses.

Navy losing to AF and Hawaii makes a point for the MW.
