Is the AAC the old WAC?
In its hey day of the 80s and 90s, the old WAC was a well known conference, nationally recognized for its high flying style of play. Teams like BYU, Wyoming, Colorado State, and even UTEP for a short period of time were ahead of the time and were throwing the ball all over the field. Defense suffered, but the games were entertaining.

With the very high scores that we are seeing in games like ECU v UCONN, Memphis and UCONN, ECU v USF, do you guys think the AAC is trending towards being a conference known for its offensive fire power, and exciting style of play, much like the the old WAC was?

I would say the Mwc is more reminiscent of the old WAC.

SFSU reminds me of the the old Boise, riding high on a weak schedule in a weak conference. Must be a WAC alumni thing...

RE: Is the AAC the old WAC?
Another thing that is similar is the weeknight games. The WAC was able to get a significant amount of exposure by agreeing to play their games on Thursday nights. It really built the brand. I think the AAC is benefiting from this right now. It will be interesting to see if the AAC has staying power. Unfortunately for the WAC, adding the SWC cast-offs, as well as Tulsa, proved to be the beginning of its demise. I think Aresco is smarter than that though.

I was ready to give your question consideration, until I saw that all three of your examples included ECU and UConn.

That is fair. However, I do think the conference is reminiscent of the old Wac, and I am saying that as a compliment. The highlighted Thursday Night Games are key as well. The Memphis vs Houston game is going to be highly watched, and entertaining. The WAC was the first conference to agree to this deal with ESPN.
