Islam itself I have a harder time saying that about. I got called quite a bit on here for my defense of that but it's just the reality.

I can't bring myself to paint with such a broad brush about the religion considering my childhood and the individuals I know to this day.

Then again, as a wise man once said, in reference to how two main groups here in the U.S. view race, "in the South people love the individuals and hate the race but in the North they love the race and hate the individuals."

I signed a contract a month ago with an Islamic lawyer......didn't bother me one iota....

The article itself points out there's a disconnect between what the Quran actually says and how Islamic governments operate:

I'm not a religious person, but I don't see too much of a difference between the essence of Islam and most other major religions. The way I see it, religion is a good guideline on how to live your life: Don't lie, treat your neighbor how you'd like to be treated, respect your elders, etc... Most religions have this in common. It also serves as a way to explain the great mysterious unknowns in our lives.

And then along the course of the life of a religion, it gets hijacked and spun by a political entity with the goal of subjugating the population and keeping the ruling class in power. That's what I see happening in Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Turkey, etc..

Hmm, I don't know. I do know though that you will find these attributes that we are told to follow in the Bible. Even Jesus talked about them because they are in the Ten Commandments and the two most important commandments that Jesus mentioned, i.e., love God, love your neighbor.

I would just point out that those are great and all, but according to Jesus himself, that alone will not get you salvation in the hereafter. You must admit you are a sinner, even if you love God, and lover your neighbor as you lover yourself. And you must accept the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross as payment for your sin. Several places in the New Testament we are told that works without faith is not enough.

You're reading more into my post than what I wrote. I never said that doing good will get you into heaven.

Sorry, didn't mean to infer something you didn't imply. Just drawing a distinction between Islam and Christianity. As you may know, Islam is all about works.

I heard a report yesterday that the NRA gives (on average) 3 mill per year to over 400 congressmen and senators. So that means they give to democrats as well as republicans.
