3 Green Berets killed, 2 wounded in Niger ambush
http://nypost.com/2017/10/04/us-forces-k...-in-niger/

Quote:US forces came under attack Wednesday in the West African nation of Niger — with three Green Berets killed and two others wounded, reports say.

Military officials told the New York Times that special operations troops were ambushed during a routine patrol near the Niger-Mali border. They had been training members of the Nigerien armed forces.

“We can confirm reports that a joint U.S. and Nigerien patrol came under hostile fire in southwest Niger,” said Lt. Cmdr. Anthony Falvo, a spokesman for the United States Africa Command in Stuttgart, Germany.

Three Army Green Berets were said to have been killed in the attack and two others wounded.

Officials told the Associated Press that the commandos were likely targeted by al Qaeda’s North African branch, al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.

Quote:The US military has been in the country providing training and security assistance to Nigerien soldiers following the rise of the ISIS-affiliated Boko Haram terror group and al Qaeda.

Terrorists have maintained a strong presence in the region since at least 2014.

“US Forces are in Niger to provide training and security assistance to the Nigerien Armed Forces, including support for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance efforts, in their efforts to target violent extremist organizations in the region,” Falvo told CNN on Wednesday night. “One aspect of that is training, advising and assisting the Nigeriens in order to increase their ability to bring stability and security to their people.”

WTF are three Green Berets doing in Niger?

OK, I read the official comments. So I repeat the question. We can piss them off by being there, and then try to stop them, or we can get out of their face and they'll forget about us.

Obama likely sent them there as a response to Boko Haram. If so it begs the question, why is a terror group in one African nation our problem or that if one African nations terror problem is ours why aren't we engaging in these exercises in every nation that has a terror issue?

4 dead now, and 2 more Americans injured. Meanwhile trump and pence only seem to care about the NFL and stupid "anthem" protests.

This happened nearly a week ago. And still no public comments or honors for these fallen Americans.

What were they doing there? Why weren't they more adequately protected? Why is the White House not talking about his? Are they covering up something?

Sure seems like these would all be important questions had this happened on the last guys watch, AMIRITE?

Training and helping mostly the Nigerian troops with Boko Haram. We also have a drone team over there, for years.

RE: 3 Green Berets killed, 2 wounded in Niger ambush
Quote:Four dead Americans.

It’s been five years since terrorists attacked the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, on Sept. 11, 2012, leaving four Americans dead. Last week, as CIA officers disguised in wigs and mustaches testified in court about the predawn ambush on the diplomatic compound, four other American soldiers were killed in neighboring Niger.

Most Americans may not even be aware that approximately 800 U.S. troops are stationed in Niger, a West African nation where jihadist groups have taken root. As part of the never-ending war on terror, the United States has also set up a drone base in Niger’s capital city of Niamey. Contrary to his focused commitment to reverse every policy put in place by his predecessor, President Donald Trump has decided to carry on with the construction of a second drone base in Niger commissioned by Barack Obama.

American forces have never been sanctioned to an official combat mission in Niger, a landlocked West African nation about twice the size of Texas with a population of just over 20 million people. But they have long been fighting against Islamic extremists in the country and surrounding region. On Oct. 4, four Green Berets were killed and two more injured after their group of a dozen U.S. soldiers were ambushed while conducting a joint patrol with about 40 Nigerien soldiers.

The New York Times reported that when the soldiers were ambushed, no American helicopters came to their rescue. Although Congress has never authorized the mission in Niger -- as is required by the Constitution -- the military’s Africa command asked lawmakers for more help months before the attack, the Times also reported.
Trump’s Benghazi? Ambush of U.S. soldiers in Niger goes unnoticed

Quote:WASHINGTON — When a team of Green Berets in unarmored pickup trucks came under fire in Niger last week, they quickly found themselves in the middle of a nightmare battlefield scenario: outgunned, taking casualties and far from friendly support.

The operation, which left four American soldiers dead and two wounded, is now under investigation, Pentagon officials said. That inquiry, senior military officials said, will likely reveal that the American troops had deployed to a hostile area without adequately assessing the risk, and lacked ready access to medical support.

Battlefield commanders have called medical aid an ethical obligation. The Defense Department follows a “golden-hour standard,” in which the military seeks to whisk wounded American troops from the battlefield within an hour of being wounded to give them access to advanced care and the best chance to save their lives.

I'm more curious what Roger Goodell and the NFL is up to lately though!

Doesn't sound much different at all. Other than the fact the the president and congress seemed to care a lot more about Benghazi.

The only real difference is that an ambassador was killed in the other one. This time it was just meaningless Green Berets I guess.

Benghazi was an illegal weapons smuggling operation.

Don't act like you care one bit about the loss of American lives in either event. They are both merely political props for you and your side.

Link? Seriously...I'm not quite sure who you're saying was doing the illegal smuggling.

Dude, kindly STFU. You don't know me one bit. I have many relatives who served and a nephew currently in the Navy in Japan. Don't pretend to tell me you know how I feel about our military, living and/or deceased.

If you want to ***** about using dead Americans for political gain, then you should be totally outraged by what the GOP did with Benghazi. Are you?
