If that's how he truly feels, then I guess the business exodus from Birmingham will eventually be what contributes to pushing Huntsville over the top in becoming the largest city in the state.

RE: Archibald: Randall Woodfin answers: What comes next for Birmingham
His comments about the police department having to be downtown are ridiculous too. Downtown is ghost town after 5pm. They should move the PD and sell that building. It's worth far more to the city based on current property values than it will be if this guy actually turns out to be a mayor who isn't friendly to business.

The best thing William Bell did during his tenure was work with businesses to start reshaping and revitalizing Birmingham. He probably should have spent some time on all of the neighborhoods, that's for sure, but if Woodfin takes this type of stance against business, then the people will be regretting the decision to oust Bell very soon.

I was out & able & listened in on a young person talking about him winning.
Seems like he "relates" to them.
I tend to think Birmingham is screwed but then again in a lot of ways we were with Bell.
I guess the only difference is the type screwing & the frequency.

Pretty much.

We've had close to four decades of mayors who were corrupt, stupid, nuts or some unholy combination of the three. Woodfin does not appear stupid at least. ICB trusts this guy, and is himself totally trustworthy, so that's a plus.

Woodfin doesn't seem stupid or corrupt. He just seems incredibly naive. The Birmingham rebound was due to end at some point, and it looks like that point is now

That's happening no matter how pro-business Birmingham's mayor feels.

ICB for Mayor

The last mayor of Birmingham who “may not” have lived in Birmingham is in prison.

RE: Archibald: Randall Woodfin answers: What comes next for Birmingham
No one has mentioned the new members of the City Council, but they and the incumbents are as much a part of the decision-making process as the Mayor. Woodfin was elected mayor, not king or emperor. He can suggest directions for the city, but the Council puts policy wishes into actions. It is hoped that the two separate branches will cooperate to a greater and smoother extent than we saw in the recent past. Apparently, the voters felt that BOTH governing parties were responsible for the problems in the city and voted to change BOTH.

RE: Archibald: Randall Woodfin answers: What comes next for Birmingham
Let me say this about Woodfin in comparison to Bell, you won’t get all the empty promises. On the stadium in particular, we have been talking about this for years, Bell has promised 3 times in the last 2 years that we would hear something soon, and still nothing. You won’t get that with Woodfin. We may not get the stadium, but we also won’t get empty promises. We will know soon after he’s in office what role Birmingham will play in the stadium if any. The stadium issue will be resolved one way or the other.

As far as businesses, his is not anti-business. He is anti, “line my pocket, get what you want” type business. He will deal with companies above board. When he said he will piss businesses off, read the next sentence, “I get to say no.” He is referring to the fact that certain businesses had the previous mayor in their back pockets and they got whatever they wanted, even at the expense of the overall good of the city. Because he is not bought, he has the leverage to work in best interest of city, even if that is telling them no on some things. Every mayor should be able to say no to businesses if it doesn’t benefit the city. I expect him to get behind bringing business to Birmingham, but certain businesses won’t get priveleges based on their past contributions to campaigns. There is more I could say, but I will stop there.

+1

Ready to see what MAYOR Woodfin has in his plans as a new era begins.
