RE: Lomax to now make an official visit . . .
Lomax was the priority all year, and he couldn't pull the trigger on Memphis.

Now, when it looks like Tyler has pulled even with Lomax, and will commit this weekend, Lomax and his group want to jump in and slow things down.

It's why the Tigers will always have a recruiting advantage, with the sheer number of local players. Just be honest, tell players the first one to commit gets the spot, and it creates urgency.

You take the first to commit. No more of this 'public favorites.'

RE: Lomax to now make an official visit . . .
The key is the Tigers made up ground with Tyler and family. No urgency for Lomax when it was assumed Tyler was going to Iowa State.

Now, Memphis leads for Tyler, and Lomax and entourage realized that the Memphis option is about to close, and they react.

Recruiting is a lot like dating in high school. That chick who you kinda liked and liked you looks a lot hotter when one of your buddies is about to ask her out.

But it's true, Snow. Trust me. Men are very simple creatures.

So if Harris commits this weekend, what then for Lomax?

Then we are done with Lomax. Lomax and Tyler won't play for the same team in college.

He’s out of luck I guess. I’d recommend committing now if one truly wants to play for the hometown school. Why go visit yet again. It’s sort of like musical chairs. I’d tell my son grab your chair now before someone else does.

It could also be a CYA to have an out with the locals who are putting pressure on him to stay home.

He keeps Memphis on the list and gives them equal footing but if Harris Commits it looks like Memphis chose a different option.

I suppose if it works out in this scenario the quote that people have ridiculed Saul over would prove to be a viable recruiting approach. Paraphrasing b/c I'm too lazy to search for the exact quote, but it essentially said if a guy wants to be non-committal then they would just move on to the next recruit.

I guess we'll see who wants to be a Tiger. It appears that Lomax has been given a fair chance.

RE: Lomax to now make an official visit . . .
I think Tyler passed Lomax in the staff's eyes with his play during the summer, specifically in Vegas in late July when Team Thad went 8 - 0 and won the 17U tourney. This is a long cut-and-paste from Ballislife.com, but remember also that Woodard joined Team Thad for the Vegas tourney. Quite possible it helps the Tigers with Woodard to have Tyler committed.

"Team Thad had plenty of motivation entering the Las Vegas Fab 48. The Tennessee-based club, particularly its head coach Norton Hurd, felt it should have won the Under Armour Association (UAA) Circuit title during July’s second live NCAA evaluation period. Team Thad was a top seed, but finished in third place after a semifinal loss to Team Charlotte (N.C.).

Team Thad atoned for the upset loss by capturing the 17U Invitational title with a 77-61 victory over the New York Rens to win the Fab 48’s 32-team bracket. Team Thad not only won the event’s top division, it went unbeaten in pool play to finish the third evaluation period with a perfect 8-0 record.

The catalyst for Team Thad was uncommitted 2018 point guard Tyler Harris, a 5-foot-10 speed demon from Cordova (Memphis, Tenn.), who is one of the nation’s fast-rising players this summer. He wasn’t a household name on the grassroots circuit before July, but this tournament changed that. There wasn’t a faster (under control) player with the ball in his hands at the three major Las Vegas tournaments than Harris, who went for 18 points and three assists in the title game victory over the NY Rens. He averaged 22.8 points per game over his final four games in the bracket and shoots the 3-pointer just well enough to set himself up to blow by defenders, set up teammates for athletic finishes or simply finish at the rim himself. Harris’ unselfish style also rubbed off on his teammates, as he racked up many hockey assists, while his teammates got him the ball in transition, where he raced past the defense for easy lay-ins.

“I wanted to come here and play well, said Harris, who reported that Cincinnati, Virginia and St. Louis had become involved in his recruitment as of late. “I wanted to end my final AAU season the right way. After UAA finals, my recruitment has picked up a lot.”

“Tyler stepped up his game in July,” Hurd said. “He deserves all the attention he’s getting…he’s one of the top 10 point guards in the country.”
Team Thad’s title run was bolstered by the powerful inside play of 6-foot-6 2018 forward Robert Woodard (Columbus, Miss.), who joined the team for the Fab 48 after playing earlier in the summer for Mebo Elite Team Hood on the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) circuit. He went for 13 points and eight rebounds in the title game, but had plenty of larger offensive outputs earlier in the bracket. Woodard, who is looking to cut his list of colleges by the end of summer . . ."

Here's my question . . . And let me preface it by saying that I want Harris over Lomax. But what has changed if you are Tubby and staff? If they both want to come and they always liked Lomax over Harris, why would they change and go w Harris over Lomax?

The next week will be interesting.

There will be a lot of anger (and maybe rightfully so) if this was all a move to get Lomax to get his ass in gear.

Logistically, I don't see how Lomax comes here since Harris is taking his official this weekend and Lomax the following. I can't imagine Harris not committing this weekend--especially now if he knows Lomax is on his heels.

Now, it may backfire for Memphis if Harris gets turned off by the sudden re-focus of Lomax and then Lomax realizes during his visit why he cooled on Memphis over the summer and decides to wait until the spring to commit.

That's why Tubby gets paid the big bucks--to figure this ish out.

I predict Tyler commits and the Lomax visit doesn't happen. Btw, not sure the Lomax visit is actually scheduled yet. Remember, official visits are limited, so no need to spend one on Lomax if Tyler commits.

Why do you think everyone on the staff has always had Lomax > Harris?

I know it's not directed at me, but Lomax is a prototypical PG. Facilitator first, shooter second. Team leader. Great defender.

All hallmarks of what people say a "Tubby kid" is.

Harris is a baller. Not a distributor (1.1:1 assist-to ratio). He takes a lot more threes than twos. Play with a 24/7 green light and that would likely have to change under Tubby.

Love to see 5'9" Harris and 7'4" Vanover as our 3 pt threats.
