This is far different than that a shooter in the middle of a crowd where multiple people could have been armed.

YES! The US is massively less safe than every other developed country. We're safer than Honduras, Colombia, and Venezuela. And that's about it. The numbers quoted in here are PER CAPITA. The US is generally 10-20 times more prone to gun violence on a per capita basis than the rest of the developed world.

Per capita.

Back in college I dated this girl who was a little bit more "socially aware" than I was.

We were out one night driving around and she starts lecturing me on the "correct" attitudes one should have.

The whole time she's talking I'm making my way to a relatively bad part of town. She eventually finishes her lecture. I stopped the car and asked her if she was willing to get out and walk.

You can guess what she did.

Anyway, I share this to pivot back to reality about your points.

I live in the Memphis metro area. One of the top 5 highest crime cities on practically ever list.

Here's an article from the local paper The Commercial Appeal: Analysis: Homicide victims in Memphis far more likely to be black men
By Jody Callahan
Jan 31, 2016

Quote:After an open-records request by The Commercial Appeal, city officials released a more detailed look at the 2015 homicide statistics, including race, gender, age, location and other information.

Those statistics show that, in Memphis, young black men are far more likely to be the victims of homicide than any other race or gender. Of those 161 victims, 120 — 74.5 percent — were black men. That's a slight change from 2014's percentage of 78.6. And of those 120 black men killed in 2015, 82 — 68.3 percent — were under the age of 35.

Victim Demographics
74.5% - Black Male
25.5% - All others

Quote:Also, 139 were black, 16 white, five were classified as Latino and one was listed as unknown. A further breakdown shows that 120 were black males, 19 were black females, 12 were white males, four were white females, four were Latino males, one was a Latino female and one was unknown.

Race of Victim
86.3% - Black
9.9% - White
3.1% - Latino
0.7% - Unknown

Quote:Of the 161 killings, 61 were committed by someone known to the victim, 28 were committed by a stranger, 71 were unknown and one was listed as none.

Relationship between Victim & Suspect
44.4% - Unknown
38.1% - Known
17.5% - Stranger

Quote:Eight ZIP codes recorded double figures in homicides in 2015, led by 38114 with 19; then 38115 with 15; 38109 and 38118 with 13 each; and 38106, 38111 and 38116, each with 11.

Per ZIP Code
11.8% - 38114 (19)
9.3% - 38115 (15)
8.1% - 38109 (13)
8.1% - 38118 (13)
6.8% - 38106 (11)
6.8% - 38111 (11)
6.8% - 38116 (11)
42.% - All Other (68)

Referring to the ZIP Code map below, you can see that nearly all of the areas listed above are in South Memphis.

As a white male the probability of me being a random homicide victim in Memphis is quite low -- even though Memphis is considered a dangerous city. I'm aware of my location and surroundings.

I choose not to engage in behavior that would increase my probabilities of becoming a homicide victim.

if I could rep this post +X, I would....

too many of the 'pretentious pretender's stratolounger club' or simply the 'thumbtapping pretentious' don't have a clue.....

Like the well to do white people who invented the concept of "white privilege" when most people of any group live paycheck to paycheck.

XACLY!

Hannity is wrong. Even my friends who are pro gun rights that said the same Hannity said years ago said that there was no way to protect anybody from this. Even having guns and permits would not prevent this. Plus, with beer around at the concert? Drunks with guns would turn their guns on each other instead of the murderer.

This speaks to the myth that if people with guns were in the area that they would be able to shoot this guy.

Why do they keep perpetuating this myth?

Hannity's remarks were correct. The Vegas guy was not shooting within a crowd, so no, it would not apply in this case. It certainly would have applied at Sandy Hook, VT, Aurora, Columbine, etc. If someone had a gun in those massacres, there could have been fewer casualties.

Yea,

We all get that.

Just fitty being fitty.

Sad

I'm not going to click on your link because quite frankly, Sean is unbearably obnoxious. But I will say, I don't really care if the distance and angle made it unlikely to return fire. The point is, next time it might not be unlikely. The circumstances of this incident are unique to THIS incident. There are 100,000 possibilities of terrorist-like attacks.

I don't disagree but in the San Bernardino shooting, there was at least one armed person who could have done something. What he did instead was barricade himself inside his office with other co workers. So the notion that an armed person is going to risk his life and try and gun someone down is complete bull ****.

Are he and the people in that room still alive?

How about others?

Did they jujitsu the barbarians?!?

It's AMAZING how many people actually use these clowns for their news intake.

Though, there's no difference between what these guys say and what CNN says. They're just a little more entertaining and don't talk to many people with an opposed opinion to tell them how wrong they are.

Totally irrelevant, but why is Fallon the only one without a drink in his hand? He's the only one in that picture I actually like.
