RE: Football thoughts
Of course, as soon as posted my earlier comment they score two touchdowns in a quarter, and via the pass, no less.

IT LIVES!!

I wasn’t sure what I was watching in the second half. The defense was its usual solid self, but the offense? Where did that come from? Fourteen points in a quarter? Air Treadwell?

I'm still not certain that yesterday actually happened.

RE: Football thoughts
From what I've seen from this offense so far I honestly don't know what our offensive strategy is. Are all the QB runs designed or are they told to run of their first read isn't open? Are the QBs too antsy and pulling it down too quickly? At any rate, the second half proved that we need to be throwing the ball. Even if it's short passes we have some fast shifty receivers that can find extra yards with a little space. The constant QB sneaks has become so predictable that it's completely ineffective.

Also apparent at mid-season, the OL is no tower of power. All the more reason to 'move the pocket a bit' and pass.

As others have stated, the defense (against MAC level teams) is good enough to go to war. But this team/program needs an OC and an OL to be truly competitive.

And just an aside. ... Crum needs to keep playing along with Bollas. Nice to see Bollas coming around, but this is it for him. For Crum to be ready for next year, he still needs a few snaps a game now. Development, Development, Development.

Bollas has one more year left so if he plays like he did in the second half I'd prefer we switch to him full time. I'd love to go into a season feeling good about a QB for once. It's entirely possible neither guy starts next year though. Supposedly Mitchell was the #2 when he got hurt in camp. I thought he showed flashes of potential last year in the brief time before he got hurt. At any rate, I doubt the coaches are concerned with developing young players right now. I'm sure they're going to play the guys they think are best equipped to save their jobs.

My bad ... I stand corrected. ............. BTW is Mitchell done for the year for sure ... and just what was/is his injury.

RE: Football thoughts
Crazy fact... I know it's still early in the MAC season, but if Kent and Miami win today Kent would be in second place in the East. With Akron losing right now they would only be one game out of first.

Early, indeed. 27-3 right now. Ohio has scored 27 straight points. Kent State back to not being able to score touchdowns. How many have they scored against FBS opponents, 3? 4?

RE: Football thoughts
50 years of following and supporting KSU FB and I can say that this is without a doubt, the most incompetent team in that time. This coaching staff should never have been given the job. At the very least, they should be fired on the spot. The team has quit for the season. Please President Warren, step in and do the right thing. The AD does not know what to do.

GFlash68, I have been following it since 1963, and there have been worse Kent State teams. As far as the most "incompetent", I'll defer to your judgment.

I cannot support this coaching staff any longer!! I know Haynes is an Alum etc ( he played with my brother-in-law) and his lack of success is not without effort- I think this job is beyond his reach and we need to move the coach out and continue to support the players... Muskrat- I watched some losing football in the 80's at Kent and I think this team surpasses all of them...

RE: Football thoughts
Buckeye, we're arguing over which rotten apple at the bottom of the barrel is the rottenest, but I can think of some teams that wouldn't have beaten Miami, such as Cordelli's last season in 1993. There were some abysmal teams from 1989 through 2000, and some in the early 1980's, too, such as 1982. But, this team IS awful.

I was being careful in choosing my words. I used "incompetent" because I see some talent on this team that would exceed the talent of some of the worser teams. The problem is that the talent is totally being misused. I do not disagree with your opinion about worser teams but this team can not win games, even against lesser teams. This team was coached to not try to win the earlier games of the season because of playing national teams and being convinced that the game is useless. The problem is that this attitude carries over to later games. You can see that regardless of what play is called, when in the red zone. We do not bite the bullet and play beyond ourselves reaching for the end zone when it is within view. We start on second down positioning ourselves to score a field goal. This is a loser's mentality and it is so easy to see. This is pure coaching and it will never work. It is now a disease that has infected the entire team.

My question:

Does it matter who the coaches or who the players are if the university's administration thinks of the program as nothing more than a seasonal fundraiser?

This is why I have ask for the President to step in and take control. Do the right thing. The FB program needs university support from the highest level.

I get your point, but is she equipped to do that? How's VCU's football program doing?

VCU only has a club team as far as I know they never had an actual varsity team.
