RE: Football thoughts
I was thinking about realistic head coach options and landed on Al Golden. I wonder if he would be a good fit. He's coached in the MAC, did a total rebuild job at Temple, and is currently the Tight Ends coach with Detroit (meaning we might be able to get him to come over). Does anyone have an opinion?

Let's think about this ...

When/if a change is made let's start with the premiss there will be a lot more bad coaches going after the job than good coaches.

Soooo there's a lot better chance Kent is going to make another bad decision than a good one.

So what will make more GOOD coaches want the job.

1. History of success ... Kent does not have it.

2. A 'sleeping giant' ... more like petrified, especially considering Akron is nearby with the same issues and the same profile (No history of success ... a proven petrofied program).

3. A hotbed for football .... yes/no --- yes for the sport, not so much for Kent/MAC level programs.

4. Administrative support? ... (I'll let others weigh in here).

5. $$$ --- Put it his way. Kent has proven it will be paying at the bottom of the barrel. Which means, if there are other comparable programs looking for a new coach, chances are the better candidates have Kent on the bottom of their list .... it Kent is listed at all.

Is Golden a good call? Yes. Will Kent pay as much for Golden as (fill in the blank) will ... I seriously doubt it.

Is the probability for success at Kent State better than it is at (fill in the blank) ... I doubt it.

The more questions you add to trying to solve this problem the more negatives than positives arise against Kent State ...

This is no longer a 1990s or even a 2010 decision. In 2017, with the program where it sits right now ... this will be uuuuge!!!

Cleveland, the football situation at Kent State is very bleak. I feel for anyone trying to recruit quality talent. I think the most important quality to look for in a any new coach is the ability to recruit quality players year after year.

RE: Football thoughts
If you're thinking current NFL positions coach with MAC ties Hazell might be more likely than Golden. No idea if he would have any interest in coming back though. He might realize he stepped into a great situation at Kent before and having been here he might not be eager to face the challenges that come with this job again. I don't know what Minnesota is paying him but from what I've seen NFL position coaches make somewhere between $150K and $400K. We're paying Haynes slightly over $400K this year so it's a safe assumption that we could pay more than what he's getting. The question is 1) how much more would it take to get him away from a low scrutiny job and 2) would he even be interested in coming back? I suppose he could probably get a better offer too if he is trying to get back into college coaching... since we're probably one of the least attractive head coaching jobs in the country.

KSU@NIU:

I have seen this game far too many times. It’s amazing how predictable our games are.

Another game where the Adams the punter is the game MVP. And another game where you show no confidence in your offense and kick a field goal. I think that sums up the game pretty well.

So how much did NIU pay us to show up and take a beating?

Seriously though, this is sad, and you are 100% right with everything that you said.

RE: Football thoughts
I'm trying to find something positive. I guess if we had any semblance of an offense, our defense has kept us in enough games to where we would be quite competitive in every game played (with the exception of Clemson).

We completed half as many passes to NIU as we did to our own players.

The current coaching staff aside -

Why do you Flash fans think it is so hard to build a program?
