Wow, Bond is a small forward and not a point guard?!?!?!?

Sorry, one last friendly jab about that one, Steve...

#OldNews But Bond is a back up PG. Nothing changed.

You might be wrong about that (but perhaps that too is old news). I would expect a highly touted Ellison to get some playing time as a freshman. And the ONLY position I would expect him at is pg. we will see.

I have no idea if he (or other frosh) will be redshirted.

There are a lot of moving parts (many newcomers) so Murphy has a lot of decisions to make.

Just my opinion, but I think we're all sleeping on this player for the upcoming season, he also had about 4 blocks per game. If he produces 50% of the level he did at junior college he will a key contributor.

I'll take a wild guess and suggest Ellison is a candidate for redshirt BECAUSE of the presence of Bond as a backup PG. Bond can really move the ball, which Murphy likes, and this year's team will be very quick. Bond's time at PG is also dependent on Groce's time at SF. If Groce is the real deal, Bond can play multiple positons.

That said two thoughts:

1). If Ellison plays this year, it probably means he is really good. Remember he is behind a transfer sitout who should start two seasons. Not sure Murphy wants to burn a year if Jackson/Bond get most of the PG minutes.

2). The more likely back court candidate to get PT as a true frosh is McAdoo. Highly regarded and plays a positions, SG, where we are thin. Harris should start and there isn't much (any?) experience behind him. McAdoo would be my frosh surprise of 2017/8. Remember we are a veteran team between returnees + sitiouts and frosh can be role players not 'the man.'

I was a big fan of the Green signing, especially his highlight package. He looks like a very good player. Super athletic and had good defensive instincts, as you pointed out. He seems like a guy that, if he were 2-3 inches taller, would be a target for the Duke's and MSU's of the world.

With so many new faces it's a good thing we open with two NAIA opponents.

I'm also excited because I'll be serving as the PA Announcer for the season. So it will be a chance to see the game from a completely different angle and hopefully make some positive contributions to the fan experience.

oh nice! are you going to do "shhhhhhhhhhh-ooting two" before free throws? are you working on your catchphrases? Zach Lowe just did a great interview with Ian Eagle about coming up with catchphrases for play-by-play work. i highly recommend it.

I am late with my reply, but...
Marcus Jackson, the EMU PA announcer who introduced the "Shhhhhhhhhhhooting two" to the EMU game, is a friend of mine and I absolutely hijacked it when I did Detroit Mercy basketball last season. I plan to keep it around as a way to honor Marcus' legacy. :)

Hard to believe in 4 weeks we'll have the first EMU MBB game of 2017/18 and the EMU debut of Mr. KPJ behind the PA mike.

Amazing but Nov 10 is four weeks from tomorrow.

Nunn puts up 40 in an exhibition game for Oakalnd vs. CMU. Ouch.

We play them twice.

Ehh it's CMU. Raven dropped 50 on them. I'm not reading too much into it.

Glad we are playing them twice, though. It'll be great preparation for MAC play.

Yes, that would be my guess as well.

Backups. Bond can back up Jackson at PG (02-13-banana), Nobles backs up Minnie and Groce behind Bond (Bond the SF). McAdoo in the back court.

Still trying to get a feel for front court backups (I haven't switched over from FB to MBB thinking yet).
Don't forget Ellison. Interested in seeing how well he does at PG.

Indeed. 'Cause it effects the backup PG which we assume to be Bond.

If Ellison is a good frosh then that changes the calculus as a number of positions (does Bond have to back anyone up?). Would Murphy want to run 3 different PGs, Jackson, Ellison and Bond???

When would Murphy prefer the tall Bond over the short Ellison behind Jackson?

Will it be one of those situations where it is based on 'match ups?"

In Murphy's 3rd thru 5th season, he had top 1/4 talent in the conference and finished somewhere between 7-9 conference wins.

Conclusion: Murphy's system is an enabler to overachieve with lesser talent or underachieve with more talent and win 7-9 conference games.

I predict we win 7-9 conference games.

Reflecting back on my post before the season started, it appears we will win closer to 9 games.

How'd your prediction turn out?

If all I cared about was my prediction I guess I'd be happy.

Predicted 18-13.

Currently 16-11 with four games remaining.

They did better than I expected in the OOC season, but weaker in conference play.
