There's nothing to be "stolen", Nashville and St. Louis are just two cities among twelve, bidding for four expansion spots.

St. Louis should have top flight soccer, but if other cities show they want it more, St. Louis can't just expect to have it given to them based on the notion that it's a soccer hotbed.

St Louis has never had the magic line up. City interest in a facility aligning with a potential owner.
They could have been one of the original cities when owners held several teams but the city didn't send a proposal.
There was an attempt to buy Real Salt Lake and move them to Collinsville, IL, Salt Lake built a stadium.
Same group bid for expansion but the proposal was still a stadium in Illinois so non-starter, Welcome to MLS Philadelphia Union.
After that group bowed out, MLS expanded with 7 more teams with not so much as a bid from St. Louis.

I thought SA was in pretty solid standing with their ownership group.

Though I have to imagine there'd be a lot of confused fans if the San Antonio MLS club were to host Tottenham in a friendly.

San Antonio still owned by the people who own the Spurs?

Yep Spurs Sports & Entertainment (SS&E) still owns SAFC. Haven't seen much news about favorites to get bids lately though. Some articles I read way back when bids were submitted had us as darkhorses, others had us way down on the list.

Hoping STL continues to vote against the stadium and that that ownership coup in Sac causes problems.

As far as I'm concerned You could keep the soccer team and take the Hornets maybe even the Panthers. Give me MLB, Nascar, PGA, Carolina Panthers in Raleigh and Charlotte 49er sports and I'm good to go.

I know Detroit is doing great with their team, but I can't see it being an easy sale with the population loss, the potential interest of Ford and GM in marketing is the only place they seem worth the risk.

I don't know if they get picked, but I think their odds are better than San Antonio's.

A lot of people sounded like you in Atlanta a year or two ago.

Detroit's interesting because they have tier3 team and their fans don't want the MLS there. Of course, one would have to imagine if MLS picked Detroit they'd convert.

Same with a ton of people in Cincy 2 years ago. I was a bandwagon soccer fan, ended up going to 5 or 6 matches last year and became a season ticket holder this year. Soccer's taken this city by storm. I see just as many FCC shirts/stickers/hats as I do Reds and Bengals gear. They've converted a lot of the "soccer is boring, communist and sissy" crowd in this town.

Exact same thing happened in Atlanta, there are a few dozen bitter Silverbacks fans who refuse to supporr AUFC.

That would be really cool! I've always wanted to watch a MLS game and Nashville would be convenient. I can see the Preds fans wanting to take their party to soccer too :)

I see more people wearing ATL United apparel around the city right now then anything else.

Bank of America would be a great venue for World Cup, with capacity over 60k and Charlotte a good host city.

um, okay? I live here and I don't think I see enough Bengals or Reds gear to fill a van either. But in Cincinnati, FCC has been the story of the summer and go out on Friday or Saturday night or any major even in the city and you'll see tons of FCC gear. They're covered by the newspaper, all the local TV networks, all sports bars show their away games on TV and they're talked about on local sports radio. I'm not making any of this up. Soccer's not the enemy but it's the future.

See recent post from one of the most popular - if not the most popular - sports talk radio host in Cincinnati:
