GFlash68, it would have been nice to have had Mason or Hazell 3 to 5 years. Both were here for only two. Since Trevor Rees, only four coaches have had winning records, and only Don James (four years) and Dennis Fitzgerald (3 years) stayed more than two years. So, in the past 54 years, Kent State was coached by a coach with a losing record at the school 43 of 54 years. Those coaches had a combined two winning seasons in those 43 years. The 11 seasons coached by one with an overall winning record at the school included 6 winning seasons.

Interesting and depressing numbers, I wonder if any of these coaches had a team in their fifth yera on the job that was only capable of scoring three points against some mediocre MAC defenses?

I wonder if any FBS team has had a worse forty years than Kent State from 1978 through this season. The good news is that fact just may be an attraction for a coach on the move. I mean, if he wins at Kent State, Power 5 schools would say the standard, "If he won at Kent State, imagine what he can do here!" Obviously, winning at Kent State or any similar mid-major often doesn't translate into success higher up the food chain. And, coaches who would want Kent State to be a very brief stepping stone often apply the "quick fix" that often isn't a good thing long term. There are no easy answers for Kent State football's dilemma. I admit I have no answers. I just hope someone does!

At least for the last 20 years, Eastern Michigan looks like they've sucked more than Kent State. We've had more seasons better than them.

RE: Fire Haynes
Funny that Slinkin mentioned EMU. They won the MAC in 1987, when were no divisions. Kent State would have tied them and gone to a bowl as MAC champions had a late Kent State field goal attempt not hit the left upright late against EMU. This article seems to have been written in 2012, and has Kent State the worst ever. Since KSU's record prior to 1978 was better than beginning 1978, there is an excellent chance that they have had the worst winning percentage over the last 40 years.

RE: Fire Haynes
New Mexico State is probably worse. Currently coached by Doug Martin, they have not made a bowl since 1960.
