I don't see how PH can get an extension at the end of the season. Hopefully, Joel can lure someone good to infuse some life. I don't need 8-10 wins a year. While that would be nice, a near .500 team that is competitive week in and week out would be enough for me. I am just looking for baby steps.

I can accept 0.500 football if it's exciting - when Corrigal was coach they had a terrible defense (which I never understood given his play as a Flash) but they put up lots of points. I too can't watch this offense and I imagine how the defensive players feel trying to keep the game close while being constantly on the field.

Kent State would have tied them and gone to a bowl as MAC champions had a late Kent State field goal attempt not hit the left upright late against EMU. This article seems to have been written in 2012, and has Kent State the worst ever. Since KSU's record prior to 1978 was better than beginning 1978, there is an excellent chance that they have had the worst winning percentage over the last 40 years.

I was at that game as a freshman and mistakenly thought KSU football might actually be good... lol 01-wingedeagle03-lmfao

Nice Haynes!! He made CBS sports as a coach on the hot seat! Joel has to be getting excited! He gets to spend his time hiring a football coach. That way he doesn’t have to spend time with winning programs.

The Flash, they WERE good in 1987 (7-4), and not bad the year before (5-6, 5-3 in the MAC), and competitive the year after (5-6), but then had to wait another 13 seasons to win 5 or more games (6-5 in 2001, 5-3 in the MAC) and 25 years after 1987 to win 7 or more games (2012). That pretty much sums up Kent State football since the James/Fitzgerald era - a very brief period of success followed by years and years of futility.

Will the next coach stay longer than 5 years to build the program? Would Sam Houston or Jacksonville State coaches entertain an offer from the AD?

The culture has to change, admin has to be willing to put into football…if not the same results will continue…Is there and D2 or D3 coaches that could change the program? Guess that’s the $100,000 question…

Two quick thoughts..
1) With the team currently 2-6 is the administration holding out firing him until after the 7th loss.
2) The University is currently doing a hiring freeze for everything outside of union or essential jobs. Could that be impacting the thoughts of replacing him at the moment?

PH is not going to get fired. He is just likely not going to get a new contract.

Technically true, dannyb73. Gerry Faust always made the point that he wasn't fired at Notre Dame, that he coached the length of his contract. But it seems a distinction without a difference.

In any case, the next several months will determine if I continue to support the FB program or not. I am ready for BB and have already made a contribution and purchased season tickets. I like the direction of the BB program and intend to donate more before year end.
