Yes, but i think the point was that this is the first time NBC has exercised that clause for a true home game.

I believe, but am not sure, that the NBCSN provision was only in the latest ten year renewal.

Yep, I assume the ACC will also do at least one away game on the ACC network also.

They did air the 2015 BC game (Fenway Park) on NBCSN. That would have been under the last contract, as the current 10-year deal started with the 2016 season.

But it also means that they did not choose to exercise that clause last year. It's just noteworthy that this is the first time it's been exercised under this new deal.

Probably, but those will be road games for the Irish.

Yeah, just saying that they will use our games as way to have ND fans want the network. Louisville game maybe on it, if I was in charge of ESPN.

Acc has the right to 5 ND games over a 2 year span.
They will be helpful in launching ACC network I am sure. ESPN loves to put marquee games on a network they are launching

ND @ UL is a possibility, but IMO unlikely. Why? Because it's Labor Day Monday night and thus the only game that night - ESPN will keep that one, I think.

The only other ND @ ACC game in 2019 is much more likely, IMO - ND @ Duke, on 11/09/19 (a weekend with few non-conference games, too). If I had to pick I'd say that one is 90% sure to be on the ACC Network.

Oh, yeah, the Irish are playing in REVENGE in that game, too.

I think this is the first time an Irish home game is on NBCSN, it is because of the President's Cup conflict.

That didn't happen in the past. There's only 7-8 Irish home games a year. If anything, the President's Cup would conflict with it. If we were in the 90's, there's no way the Irish game wouldn't be on NBC.

I'm still surprised it's not on NBC and the PC on MSNBC or NBCSN. Had Notre Dame been playing any of about 80 other teams, it still would have been on NBC.

There have only been 12 Presidents Cups.
2015 it was in South Korea and Notre Dame-Navy kicked off at 5:30 am Korea time.
2013 tournament was in Ohio, Notre Dame played a night game in Texas, but was the home team
2011 it was in Australia and Notre Dame kicked off at 8am Melbourne time.
2009 Tournament was in San Francisco and Notre Dame had an open date.
2007 in Montreal, Notre Dame had a road game.
2005 Gainesville, VA the Irish were on the road.
2003 South Africa, ND open date.
2001 cancelled in wake of 9/11
2000 Gainesville, VA, Notre Dame road game.
1998 Australia played the second weekend of December when there were no college games played.
1996 conflict matches in Gainesville, VA, Notre Dame had a day home game vs. Purdue, but CBS had the rights to the Presidents Cup so there was no conflict.
1994 Gainesville, VA, Notre Dame road game.

So it was the first time the Presidents Cup conflicted with NBC showing Notre Dame.

I think ND will survive missing one week on NBC. It was a once in forever event, they still get the big bucks, they were on another NBC channel, and 5 of their ACC games are on TV every year whether they are home or away. Can you actually name a week when ND is not on TV during the College Football Season when they are playing. The brand sells its self since its been around so long and has been so successful a majority of the time. 05-stirthepot 05-stirthepot 04-jawdrop 04-bow 07-coffee3 04-cheers

Yes, although not explicitly stated, i think the motivation for the OP was to suggest that the game being on NBCSN means that NBC thinks the Notre Dame brand is slipping. I don't think there's any evidence of that whatsoever.

RE: Notre Dame home game not on NBC?
It's to ween them off the standard airwaves NBC station + to amp up viewership on their cable station.

I can understand that for neutral-site games. But yeah, it being a home game -- very interesting. However, ND probably knows they're not going to be on straight-NBC all the time forever, with more parity in college football.

But I will say any big team VS ND will always only be on NBC when it's at home, as long as they have any sort of contract with them.

The BC game was an ND home game...moved to Fenway as a Shamrock Series game. But, it was a scheduled home game.

This is much ado about nothing. Slow news week, I guess.

No, this is not evidence of a reduction in "brand". It is NBC's way of promoting NBC Sports. Full stop.
