Exactly... and this "educator" should be ashamed of herself for turning down any such donation.

Yeah. If you know of a more deserving school, just say thank you, and then re-gift it.

Can't make a political statement then.

I certainly hope that in the future the US Dept of Education remembers that this school has adequate resources and directs federal money to those less fortunate.

Exactly. Phillips weak attempt to excuse the rejection of the donation is transparent as hell to anyone with half a brain. 07-coffee3

When is ANTIFA going to bum rush libraries and throw fits to have all this racist propaganda removed?

They were rejected in order to make a political statement.

The librarian is a loser and embarrassed herself and her district.

Yes, she could have dressed up as a thousand characters and picked a "racist" authors character? Let's be honest--she has no problem with Dr Seuss books. The reason the books were rejected was because they came from the Trump administration. Why is that so hard to admit?

They weren't rejected for being "racist," they were rejected because the librarian knew their school didn't need the donation, and instead suggested that Melania donate to schools with fewer resources...resources that her hubby's education secretary is more than happy to slash:

"But Liz Phipps Soeiro, an award-winning school librarian at Cambridgeport elementary school in Massachusetts, turned down the offer, saying that her school has no need for the books. In a letter posted on the Horn Book site, she suggested that Trump should send the books to schools with fewer resources.

“Why not go out of your way to gift books to underfunded and underprivileged communities that continue to be marginalised and maligned by policies put in place by Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos?” Phipps Soeiro asked. “Why not reflect on those ‘high standards of excellence’ beyond only what the numbers suggest? Secretary DeVos would do well to scaffold and lift schools instead of punishing them with closures and slashed budgets.”

Soeiro does mention toward the very bottom of the letter that Dr. Seuss books have been noted for having racial stereotypes, but that's not new information, and is more of an aside in the letter. Her main focus is the fact that her school is well-off, therefore she believes schools with fewer resources would be better served by them.

The actual letter, if you care to read it: http://www.hbook.com/2017/09/blogs/famil...mrs-trump/

you might want to read up on the whole letter before you start commenting...

Quote:Another fact that many people are unaware of is that Dr. Seuss’s illustrations are steeped in racist propaganda, caricatures, and harmful stereotypes. Open one of his books (If I Ran a Zoo or And to Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street, for example), and you’ll see the racist mockery in his art. Grace Hwang Lynch’s School Library Journal article, “Is the Cat in the Hat Racist? Read Across America Shifts Away from Dr. Seuss and Toward Diverse Books,” reports on Katie Ishizuka’s work analyzing the minstrel characteristics and trope nature of Seuss’s characters. Scholar Philip Nel’s new book, Was the Cat in the Hat Black? The Hidden Racism of Children’s Literature, and the Need for Diverse Books, further explores and shines a spotlight on the systemic racism and oppression in education and literature.

People think that the guy who wrote about the star-bellied sneetches was a racist.

That story was specifically about the stupidity of prejudice and discrimination.

These people are insanely stupid, or stupidly insane.

Probably when the KKK learns to read and decides to protest the black letters in books written by Jews.

If she stopped at that bolded paragraph, that would've been fine. Perhaps admirable. But that wouldn't have given her those 15 seconds of Internet fame she wanted. Instead, she went full SJW with digging up racism everywhere (never mind her hypocritical photo dressing up and celebrating said alleged racist material), 'white supremacy', and other Mother Jones prattle. Still, I agree that future First Ladies should refrain from sending complimentary books to hoity-toity New England school districts in the shadow of Ivy League universities. Send them to poorer Appalachian schools.

People like her don't realize she's actually helping the Trump 2020 campaign. {and I didn't vote for Trump, and still glad I didn't}

I would have her quote about racist Dr. Seuss in campaign adds all over the country. People need to know what the left really thinks. To trash the memory of a beloved individual like this. Talk about stupid.

At least they're back on track to getting everyone, nomad. Even Stone and Parker said they screwed up the last few seasons sticking to an anti-Trump creed-week in and week-out, and were getting back to going after everybody.

What's to admit? I'm not arguing that point. She flat-out said her school didn't need it, but other schools that the Department of Education & DeVos (Trump's pick) has cut funding to, would.

So yes, she rejected it because it came from an administration that is seemingly intent on making public education in this country even worse than it already is. It's a form of peaceful protest.

Again, the racial comment re: Dr. Seuss isn't the focus of her letter, it's more of an aside. Would it have come across better without it? Maybe, but more than likely not; the people who have a problem with it now would still have a problem.
