He's had many chances to jump to what so many coaches jump at and fail (middling programs in big time conferences) and he won't do it. I think far too many coaches take those middling P5 type jobs when they can achieve as much where they are and hope for a much bigger job. To me it's the much smarter path and marshall is a great coach to boot.
Wichita State is a major basketball program that got stuck in a mid-major conference. Gregg Marshall's decision to stay at Wichita State was as much about the truckloads of money we parked in the driveway of his million dollar home as it was his loyalty or discretion. Wichita State always stayed ahead of the curve with respect to Gregg's market value. When Alabama came sniffing around we upped the ante yet again. He's at around $3.5M+ now and that's like $35M in Wichita, Ks.

Alabama? That program is perennial dogcrap.
lol no basketball coach worth a crud would go there. It's a football school. Anything the men's hoops team does is seen as a nice little bonus on a successful football season. I would hope you wouldn't lose a basketball coach to Alabama.

It got scarier than it should have. 4 million+ offers do strange things to people. Think of all the fringe benefits too with regards to football. Perhaps the biggest positive was that expectations would be zero. Coincidentally, that would also be the biggest negative. He gets $4M+ a year to coach basketball and nobody notices if he fails - nobody notices if he succeeds either. I'm sure he was tempted by the idea of a golden parachute and a zero stress job. Ultimately the competitor inside him, along with all his friends in Wichita, wouldn't let him take the easy money and run.
All that being said, had we not coughed up 3M+, 3G would be in Alabama right now whatever that's worth. They courted him hard and promised him the sun, moon, AND the stars. Must be a big football fan...
