Good Owl, Antarius
Does anyone know what happened to two of our best posters, Good Owl and Antarius. I have not noticed a post from either for some time.

I talked to Antarius at a tailgate last weekend. Just lamented about the current state of football and said that he was off to go to a Houston Dash soccer game.

Thanks. If you run in to him again, ask him to come back.

I know that Antarius's job keeps him constantly traveling around the world. Last year I don't think he came to a single basketball game, and he used to be a regular in Section 103. I just think he is very busy these days with work, and discussing Rice sports is no longer a priority.

He's still has his season tickets with us in Club 103, and he was at a couple of the games I attended last year (and I only make it down for a handful).

RE: Good Owl, Antarius
In a couple of conversations I had with Antarius durng the 2016-17 college sports season, he indicated an overwhelming degree of frustration with Rice sports generally; his parting comment was a more complex statement of "stick a fork in me; I'm done."

Thing is, Antarius is Exhibit "A" for the kind of high interest level, high energy, high, er, income potential alum that we absolutely must have and keep if we hope to sustain intercollegiate athletics at Rice in any meaningful way. Those of you who know him, know what I'm talking about. JK should be on the phone begging him to come back. Just saying...

I recall several posters said they were done after the announcement that DB was returning.

It's become a lot harder to care when the people in charge (President, AD, Board, some donors) show that they don't care about results on the field.

I'm back temporarily.. and touched I was missed!! haha

This pretty much hits it on the head - my yearly participation in Rice Athletics has dropped from "as much as I could" to near zero. I used to plan my business travel return flights around football games and once flew back from SE Asia to make a home game - thats over. I did make it to the Rice-UH soccer game this year - charity game + soccer team deserves support.

To be honest Rice Athletics mirrors only two other industries - government and some large companies in Oil and Gas. Both have people who have mailed in their careers decades ago and still collect way too big paychecks for their contributions. All 3 share the same trait - you can effortlessly retire in place with a paycheck. And that is an anathema to my personality and philosophy; I do not plan on supporting such enterprises.

I also struggle because if I was in Bailiff's position, I would have resigned years ago. Call me old fashioned, but honor in your profession was a big part of my familial upbringing. Failure to earn your paycheck was simply not an option - you either exceeded expectations or you admitted failure and resigned.

I wonder if some of these play into potential would be fans. Or maybe not.

Honestly a few quality wins would probably fix most issues for most.

Same fantasy land that led my people of my fathers era to dominate silicon valley I guess. Sorry, mailing it in for a paycheck wasn't something I was brought up to do.

And I plan on wearing that as a badge of pride. Guess that is one of the many things that differentiates someone like Elon Musk or Sergey Brin from someone like Bailiff.

Mmmhmmm, yeah, ok. I would love to see a list of all those people who resigned because they thought they weren't good enough.

How about this one?

Quote:"The move, which the Twins said came at Nishioka's request and was supported by the club, wasn't a surprise. But the way he went out was unique. Accepting blame for his failure to produce at the plate or play capable defense at shortstop and second base, Nishioka waived his right to his $3 million salary for the 2013 season and a $250,000 buyout."

Mark McGwire walked away from a $45 million contract knowing he couldn't earn it.
