I've honestly gone from growing up a big fan of college hoops to pretty much hating the sport. College Basketball recruiting is probably the most disgusting thing in all of sports. The handlers, the fraudsters, the shoe companies, the TV networks, the hangers on, the scam artists. It's just absolutely disgusting.

Coaches make millions, assistant coaches and ADs make hundreds of thousands, and on down the line. But the players get a few years towards a criminal justice degree, and when they do find a way to get cash for the value they provide, it's a damn federal crime. As is often the case, the real scandal is what's legal.

A lot of them can afford to pay coaches ADs that money because fans tune it, attend and they get lucrative P5 TV contracts. And in the case of Ville a tax payer BJ called the Yum Center.

Anyway not the case for some low/mid majors. You can't pay players a 100K signing bonus and expect the womens soccer team is cool with that. Most former athletes seem to do well after graduation.

Not saying that's likely but perhaps we should wait until they're accused of something before giving the death penalty.

The FBI affidavit says they have videotape evidence of a UofL asst coach offering bribes in a Las Vegas hotel room.

After the FBI sorts everything out, the NCAA may step in. It'll be a while before anything happens, but UofL fans should be a little scared, I'd think.

Oh, not to mention the inevitable tax evasion/tax fraud issues this raises for all recipients who did not claim the $$ on their federal filings. Money laundering for the folks in the middle potentially when it comes out how they funneled the $$ to avoid detection by state and federal agencies and law enforcement.

FWIW, any deposit of $9,999 or more triggers an automatic report to the IRS via federal banking regs....smaller amounts trigger as well if it does not match up with historical transaction habits and the source is not clear.

When the guys in the US Attorneys' crosshairs start spilling their guts to save their own hides after their godfathers tell them to take the cosa nostra-esque fall for their head coaches, lots of folks are going to get caught up in the wash.

Yet the Four Letter Network will spend all of its oxygen on the stupid NFL national anthem idiocy.

You know how fans sometimes get mad at Mick for quickly cutting ties on highly rated recruits. Yeah, about that......

This x1000

Oh geez. Is this the latest excuse we're going with for how/ why, Mick, can't recruit some of the better kids out there? Accepting this as rational means implicitly suggesting that all highly rated kids require these types of perks. Until we see evidence of this, I'll just keep on 03-zzz

On another note, ol buddy at Auburn can't stay away from drama. Get canned at Tenn for cheating, no lessons learned, nor fux given....participate all over again at Auburn.

mc

Way to take what I said entirely out of context. I know of MULTIPLE occasions where UC has stopped recruiting a kid because a runner or someone either now in jail or running the same game gets involved. You can take it however you want. I know it has happened on a regular basis...

Investigation ongoing. Recordings of hundreds of phone calls, besides the video. FBI actively encouraging
anyone to call into to tip line, and if you have been involved in stuff like this....better you call us than we call you.

2 year investigation, they probably have dirt on many more but once they had enough on these clowns they needed to move on it.

ACC won't do anything unless Ville can't play the games, suspension of the program.

Pfft... I know we all would love to be in the ACC, but to be honest that conference has a lot of cheating programs... Ville, Miami, UNC, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, etc.

The ACC isn't going to kick them out and invite us.

There will be a lot of players and their families who squeal in exchange for immunity. People usually don't declare bribes on their tax returns.

From NCAA.org. Pfft, how about within five MONTHS?

Quote:What is the “death penalty”?

The repeat-violator legislation (“death penalty”) is applicable to an institution if, within a five-year period, the following conditions exist:

*Following the announcement of a major case, a major violation occurs and

*The second violation occurred within five years of the starting date of the penalty assessed in the first case. The second major case does not have to be in the same sport as the previous case to affect the second sport.

*Penalties for repeat violators of legislation, subject to exemptions authorized by the committee on the basis of specifically stated reasons, may include any of the following:

--The prohibition of some or all outside competition in the sport involved in the latest major violation for one or two sport seasons and the prohibition of all coaching staff members in that sport from involvement (directly or indirectly) in any coaching activities at the institution during that period

--The elimination of all initial grants-in-aid and recruiting activities in the sport involved in the latest major violation in question for a two-year period.

--The requirement that all institutional staff member serving on the NCAA Board of Directors; Leadership, Legislative, Presidents or Management Councils; Executive Committee or other Association governance bodies resign their positions. All institutional representatives shall be ineligible to serve on any NCAA committee for a period of four years and

--The requirement that the institution relinquish its Association voting privileges for a four-year period.

Depending on what gets dug up on Emanuel Richardson, could we be lucky enough to see both UL and Xavier get the hammer dropped on them? UL much more so, obviously, but Xavier could also be hurting.

I am quite excited about how much this could help our program. There is no better time for us to be squeaky clean AND opening up a new arena AND essentially being a top 10 team.

We may be one of the biggest basketball programs left unscathed by all this... certainly, that will make us more appealing to recruits.

Yeah, I'm reading a lot of stuff about an announcement at 4pm.

Edit: Quite a few are also saying he's gone "by Thursday." Looks like either way his cheating ways have finally caught up with him.

Not sure Louisville would want to hire a former Pitino assistant. Plus, why would Mick want to go to a school with serious sanctions?
