Yea, I'm unsure how much of a cut the player gets for the sale of their number.

According to the agreement between the NFLPA, the players' union, and the league, players gets two-thirds of the money made by selling jerseys. The other third goes to the union -- and some of that goes into a pool for all NFL players.

RE: Alejandro Villanueva Jersey Sales Skyrocket
Before everyone gets all in a hub-bub about my intent, I'm curious to know how they define "skyrocket" and "top-seller"?
I don't care how people spend their money, but it irks me when people use imprecise, over-hyping words (Critics are raving, #1 film of the year, Best selling vehicle in it's class,... you know what I mean)
Skyrocket? If Tom Brady jersey total sales for the year jump from 100,000 to 110,000 that's only a 10% rise. If Villanueva jerseys jump from 50 to 500, that's ~1000% rise (an absolute skyrocket!) even though Brady's hypothetical jerseys sold 20+ times as many jerseys.
Top-seller? Top seller of the day? Of the week? If it were for the month, I'd be impressed a little, but there's no mention of what these words reference at all.
Methinks this is just an advertiser taking advantage of the "Patriotism" and selling more jersey's... especially considering the articles link directly to a fanatics.com page where you can buy the jersey.

I bet overall sales (like their ratings) are down.

Interesting. Good for him, then. I was afraid it'd be 90% goes to either the owners or the league itself.
Wonder how much of a bump that is for someone like him in comparison to his regular contract.
This is how it should work. If some of these players are willing to forego the possibility of some folks purchasing their jersey for a rather useless symbolic act, then go for it.
I hope this guy clears another 5 millions bucks.

Protesting the NFL by giving the NFL more money. That will show them.

Seems he accidentally walked out on the field and is apologizing to his team.
Nice accident for his wallet I guess.

Accidentally walked out? LOL, give me a break. B*tchburgh made a huge deal out of it before the game, how they were all going to stay in the locker room and how it was a unanimous decision.
Villanueva is obviously being pressured by the unhinged alt-leftists in the Kneeler locker room (see Tomlin's comments earlier today), and being the stand up guy that he is, he doesn't want all this attention for merely doing what is right. Easiest thing to do to make it blow over and perhaps get back in the good graces of his teammates is to just apologize.

Oh, so it's cowardice and no backbone when they kneel BEFORE the anthem tonight, but a guy either 1) walks out accidentally and is sorry or 2) he's a coward with no backbone bowing to pressure but in his case that makes him a stand up guy. Ok.
I'm taking his word myself and believe that makes him a stand up guy. For real.

He isn't bowing to pressure and it doesn't make him a coward, he is taking the path of least resistance in the hopes that this just goes away.
Geez. A coward, really? It's people like you that make apologizing these days impossible.

Paul, it's called being the bigger man. Ever gotten into an argument before where you know you're right, but the knockdown dragout fight isn't worth it, so you just apologize? Okay, well maybe you haven't, but trust me, it's a thing.
