The next step for this team is to play well for a road socon game. Not happening today.

Say what you want about Herink, he is one tough kid. He’s been beat to death but keeps competing. I like him more every game.

Couldn't agree more. He's an excellent QB.

I also think they should have kicked that one deep. So....NOW it's over.

Herink and the receivers only good parts of the game. We will dismantle Robert Morris next week.

Has the OC every heard of toss sweep, TE down the seam, wheel route, throw to Back in flat, safety valve, move the pocket on obvious pass plays, miss direction and throw to backside or anything different. He gives no help to the offensive line, the backs or quarterback. Gives no new looks to opposing defenses. Constantly keeps our offense behind the chains and gives the Bucs defense no time to rest.

TORBUSH needs to make changes or the Bucs in all probability ( I hate to say this ) won't win but two more games.

I’m not disagreeing with you but it felt like their offense could have scored on every drive. Defense didn’t bring it today. Our secondary has to get better.

Herink is a great QB. Still can't run the ball, although Rogers looks the best. Defense was a complete mess today, I'll attribute that to Furmans offense. They did a bunch of different things. Secondary is pitiful.

RE: Official Game Thread: Furman
Lucky to have Herink behind center. It would be great to see what he could do with time to throw. It's almost like he is blitzed every play but it's just simple 4 man rushes that the O-line can do nothing to stop. We get ZERO push on the line for the RBs to have any chance. I'll take 3rd and long over short every time because there's no chance were moving the chains on a run up the middle. Vincent Lowe needs more touches plain and simple. Line him up in the backfield and try getting him to the corners. He's faster and more dynamic than any of RBs. The secondary was sliced and diced all day but we had ZERO pass rush. That's been absent all season even against Limestone.

RE: Official Game Thread: Furman
I agree that we sometimes call questionable plays and have a long way to go with our running game. Ultimately, we have just not had enough recruiting cycles to stack up with most other SOCON programs from a pure talent standpoint. Our players are good enough to make up for that with effort and a never say quit attitude (really impressed by this and it is a credit to both them and the coaching staff). To be honest, I am thrilled with the progress that we have made in two short years. Coach O'Cain catches some grief on here, but we just hung more points on them than anyone but NC State to date, and Austin has developed into a really good quarterback. That simply does not happen with a "bad" offensive coordinator. Let's enjoy where we are at, give the coaching staff a little more time to recruit and develop, and see where that takes us in another year or two. I think we have some really successful seasons coming our way.

I totally agree but games like today are hard to take. I hope we move on and can play well next week.

RE: Official Game Thread: Furman
I don't get the criticism of the coaches at all.

When you have a weak link in your team (running game), the defenses start teeing off on the quarterback knowing that we are going to pass. And our offensive line isn't strong or quick enough to stop those blitzes right now. We do good offensively all things considering.

Defensively we have given up a lot of yards all season. Today we were just out of position way too many times.

And yes we will probably only win 2-3 more games this year. As I (and many others) have said all year, a 5 win season while not getting blown out as often is progress. We will win next week and against VMI. If we can pick up another win along the way, that is a successful season.

Looking at the schedule, outside of Robert Morris and VMI, the weakest team left looks like UTC. Samford crushed Citadel today and WCU looks so explosive it's scary. I can't see the 5th win right now. I was counting Furman as a possible W.

UTC is pretty terrible as has been stated. I got that chalked up as win number 5 with confidence.
