RE: JMU @ Delaware Thread
Ugliest win of the Houston era but I'll take it. Lot's of things can be nitpicked from play calling to execution but the storm clouds were brewing all week for this to be the type of game that could potentially bite us: injuries, first road game in nearly a month, second tough physical team in a row, different defensive system (1st 3-4 seen), opponent's extra week of prep, etc. On top of all of that the weather conditions turned out to be such that they hurt us a lot more than them.

Out of the ten conference games under Houston, I believe five of our opponents have had bye weeks before playing us.

RE: JMU @ Delaware Thread
I think we as fans have to avoid becoming spoiled. I'm guilty of this some I admit.

It suuuuure is comforting knowing we have a defense that not only will keep us in every game, but can actually win games for us. My how things have changed from this time a year ago. This offense needs to put up 17 points and we'll have a great shot to win every week. And, it would be nice for our offense (and special teams) to not give up points.

I agree, watching it on CSN, I wasnt completely sure it was a lateral. In fact, I thought they got the call wrong. This clearly shows it was a lateral.

Was the wind blowing towards their endzone, cause it looked like a little bit of a curveball... maybe the wind helped us a bit after all!

Totally what happened, you can tell by the back's reaction and that's why he muffed it.

Ditto on the thanks. My first reaction was the refs missed the call based on looking at where the QB's body was compared to where the RB's body was. But, then you can see where the QB's release was versus thrown behind the RB, I can see the correct call was made.

same here, thought it was a bad call until seeing this. and can we talk about what a great job Ankrah did, not just on the scoop and score, but avoiding the cut block? if the LT gets him on the ground, that TD never happens.

Just curious, is the decision on whether a pass is forward or backward made immediately when it leaves the QB's hand or when it reaches either the receiver or possibly hits the ground. Basically, if the wind make it go backwards does that make it a backwards pass?

Sure, I would say it does. Just like the wind made our FG attempt wide-right.

Just a little plug for jmuroadwarrior making a cameo appearance in the game summary hype video. Another reason for going to away games and being in the right place at the right time. It's at the very end of the video.

I don't think enough is being said of the 9:35 drive in the 3rd quarter we put together when the wind was at our back. Denying Delaware the advantage of the wind by consuming nearly that entire quarter was brilliant (and such a Micky move). That also completely shifted field position in JMUs favor for the entire 4th quarter...any comeback UD had in them was going to be on the ground and in the wind.

That 9:35 drive is by far the longest of the season, previous long was 5:33 against ETSU

Yeah the elements are part of the game. If the wind forced the pass back, it's no different than if it affected a field goal or any of our forward passes in the game.

Yeah I actually thought about that as the game winded down in the fourth. Even though it was frustrating to come away from that long drive with no points, it's still important in a grind it out game like this to simply waste game clock and keep UD's offense off the field. Our defense also really needed a breather by that point too and they got it.

The best defense is an offensive drive that results in no points... is that a coaches' cliche?

Though it bothered me to come away w/ zero points, I tried to look at that drive in another perspective. Kinda like those baseball players who excel in taking pitchers real deep into a count
(think Johnny Damon taking a pitcher into double digits pitches). May not have gotten the result we were looking for, but the consolation was we started to wear them out.

don't understand why we didn't run a better play on 4th and 4 at the end of the game... let alone a field goal... maybe you are worried it gets blocked and returned, but there was very little chance that we were going to run for a first down there....I thought a p/a pass to tight end back of the end zone shoulda/woulda been the play call...

I agree - one bad play and an on-side recovery could have set us up for a loss - i think we needed to be more jugular there...not necessarily to score, but to make sure they do not get the ball back
