Anything more than 15 maybe 20 seconds I would never ever squib it. Under 20 there is some rationale to do it because the receiving team will burn five or six more seconds but definitely wouldn't squib with more than that left on the clock.

With 40 seconds kick the damn thing off and cover or if you want to do something otherwise pooch it/sky kick it to about the 30 as high as possible where the receiving team has to have an up back either receive it where he promptly gets blasted or has to take it as a fair catch.

Squib quicks are from the devil.

Sometimes, squib kicks are a blessing in disguise. I have watched receiving teams fumble all over themselves chasing the wayward squib kicked ball bouncing every each way for 5-10 seconds...
