According to this we are 8-12 all time vs VT in basketball. We have more wins vs William and Mary than any other school.

For whatever reason, sports reference doesn't include the first game.

My guess would be b/c that first game was played in the Kiwanis OD Classic at Scope over the Christmas Holidays. So seeing that title folks might overlook it as a ODU game. I was there and it was a heck of a game but Tech beat us at the end. That was the year VT went on to beat Notre Dame in the NIT, back when that tournament had a lot more gravitas. Still D-2 ODU almost got them which means we coulda been a contender in the NIT. Ahh, just checked your cited reference and it is b/c we were D-2 that they did not include it.

I was at that game as well. If memory serves me well, Rickey Michaelson ( our best shooter) missed a baseline jumper at the end that would have won the game for us. Tough loss. VT went on to have a big year ( as mentioned above).

Craig Lieder (sp.?) a Norfolk/Maury High b-baller really hurt us as did Stevens. As I recall their normal top scorer (Bristow?) was not the killer that night it was Lieder playing in front of his home folks. Still for D-2 ODU (maybe still ODC back then?) it was a pretty good showing. Also a night that showed what the Monarchs could be some day.
