Just got word that Joe Welch has passed away. Many will know Joe from his years as a Rice usher, but he was also an ardent fan of all things Rice.

No word yet on services.

So sad. I last corresponded with Joe about a month ago. Joe was a fixture at just about every Rice sporting event. He will be dearly missed.

A real true blue Owl. One of the friendliest around. Really hated it when CDC dumped all the long time ushers for the hoards of men in black.

Joe gets to join Charles Straub now up in Heaven where they can once again form the nation's best usher duo. Maybe someone can find the Tucker Phillips video - weren't they the two featured in that promo?

Yes, Charles was in it but that was John Skarda (sp?), not Joe Welch, who was the other one. John passed many years ago.

A very sad day indeed. Joe will be greatly missed by Joannie and myself.

Memorial service at 2:00
Reception following service in KofC Hall next door.
