EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14) — A Facebook video shows what appears to be a man walking out of a west El Paso Applebee’s making racist comments toward a family for reportedly speaking Spanish in the restroom.
The Facebook video posted on Sept. 18 by Jose Prieto reads that a few days ago, Prieto and his friends went to the restaurant to celebrate birthdays when a man in his 30s assaulted them.

Sometimes I wonder if anyone here speaks English anymore. I'm not kidding. It's not a biggie for me because I can speak it too but if you watch the local news they're always interviewing people and it seems none of them speak English.

My father was an immigrant and I can grant you even though he had a heavy accent and there were words that he couldn't say no English speaker could make a fool of him. He'd speak pidgin English and he always got his idea across. He was a proud American not so for many immigrants here. Their feelings are: you be like me I don't need to be like you.

My family came here in 1839 from Germany. They spoke German at home until 1918 when G-Grandfather called a halt and sent a son to war. The last German speaker died last year.

I'm not so concerned about immigrants speaking Spanish, it'll work itself out over time. Descendants will be less interested in retaining old ways. Even if it takes almost 100 years, though I think we were sorta slow.

However, my family retained no sentimental ties to Germany, waved no German flags, and had no interest in complaining about US policy toward Germany, or protesting. The people at the courthouse spoke English and they managed ok.

Okay, I confess. Since I have" that, that," person on ignore I didn't read the story. The person that was mad was stupid. I hear Arabic, Korean, Japanese in restaurants and food stores all the time. I don't get mad, it's a free country. They are speaking among themselves and no one can judge them on that. I do it too but I don't DEMAND that others speak Spanish either. I'm in the US, even though there's no official law on speaking another language other than English I feel everyone that lives here should. Everything is written in English and it's imperative that a person learns it and preferably speaks it too but no one should throw a tantrum because someone is speaking a language that person doesn't know. I'd say to that bigot, "stuff it, not knowing a different language is YOUR problem". I'll speak to my spouse, son, grandpa or whomever I want in whatever language I want". In a public setting (official) I would prefer English though.

It's funny that my wife is always spoken to in Spanish even though she was a school teacher and counselor and knows English better than me. The think she's a richy rich Mexican doing her American shopping. LOL
