Running Griggs too much!
I think the coaching staff is playing with fire. If Griggs goes down the season is over. They have too many designed run plays for him. I hold my breath until he gets up after all the qb runs. Thoughts?

RE: Running Griggs too much!
I contend he's doing it due to lack of familiarity/comfort making his reads......

I don't disagree.....and yeah, it's a concern....

he missed more than a couple of wide open receivers and tucked it against ULM.....

it's early and we have a bye week.....that should help before we face UNT.....

this is where coaching comes into play....

He could just as easily get hurt taking a sack, you know.

Most defenses will try to take ito out of the run game. Running Griggs will force the linebackers of opposing teams to plays honest and that will sotfen the middle of the field for passes between the hashes.

RE: Running Griggs too much!
its kind of a catch 22. yeah, i get nervous after every hit and hope he gets off the ground injury free (holding my breath). but....you've got to run the offense and allow him to be a running threat. he's not super fast, but certainly fast enough and has good running instincts. he's a threat to run and we need that component to the offense in order for the offense to be most effective. doesn't look like a ton of designed runs but enough to keep the defense honest. im hoping we can get up enough in several games this year so they can sit him a whole quarter or more. we DO play some terrible, terrible teams so that could help. prob only need him to play the entire game in 3-4 more games this year.

he could get hurt stepping out of the shower too....

he's shown progress.....I like what I've seen to date with the amount of playing time he's received....

I'm certain we're all aware what happens if he gets injured.....we'll either see the cuban missle (or whatever they call him) or small hands w/o a clue comes into the game....

It does make me cringe every time he runs, because I'd hate to see what happens to the season if he goes down. On the other hand, we've somewhat been in that situation for many years now. Remember, we had not won a game without Mullens. And I seem to recall a lot of discussions about Mullens not being enough of a threat to run. Now we have a threat, which will probably help the offense, so we just have to take a deep breath and hope he gets up. 04-cheers

Guys, I liked what I saw in the game....ITO got 219 didn't he? Part of the reason was ULM had to worry about Griggs running...

I wonder if Clemson fans were complaining about Deshaun Watson running too much last year? I'm uncomfortable when he runs too, but you have to let the qb play to his strength.

I think everyone is just scared sh!tless be/c Keon Howard is that terrible. We all know having a healthy Griggs is the difference between USM going 10-2 or 5-7...

UTEP is tuuuurible this year
UAB has a long way to go
Charlotte lost to friggin’ NC A&T at home

Keon is not a good QB but we’d still beat UTEP, UAB, and UNCC with him at QB.

I'm with Reggie.. I hope we NEVER have to learn if that's true or not.

I watched some of the ULM game on YouTube archive, and I'd LIKE Griggs to stay in the pocket just a little bit longer, but he doesn'tseem to run as often as I thought he did originally. Of course, ULM couldn't contain the outer edges of the pocket, so a lot of his runs did make sense... if we face off with a team that's faster on the corners of the line, I'm gonna worry a bit more though

I wouldn't bet on that unless the ball was stuck to his hands with Velcro. He's a great runner and a serviceable passer, but you can't win with somebody that prone to turning the ball over touching it every play.

He's a great athlete overall. I would love for the coaches to find a way to get him on the field. But it puts you at a real disadvantage when you have to have someone follow him around just to recover fumbles. I want to see him on the field - just not at QB.

Keon is a good athlete for a QB. But at any other skill position, he's probably an average or below average athlete for that position. I don't see any way he switches positions and ends up being very good. It's not like he runs a 4.4. To me his best shot is to sit and develop. Maybe redshirt next year. And then maybe get another shot at QB.

He could play safety. Has the build for it.
