Question for ECU, and others who have experienced
Hey Guys,

I wanted to fire up a thread, for a question I have been asking a few coworkers here in Raleigh.

Is it possible that these past two years have been planned by higher level employees of ECU? What I mean is, is it likely that they want to move the focus away from Sports, primarily Football, to something different for East Carolina?

a) while I can agree that ECU serves a much larger purpose to serve the poorer eastern part of the state, its hard to argue we would be anything significant without Football and are Med School.

I cant help but question that Staton, Compher, and Mo are hired to perform a Job, one that does not necessarily focus on keeping up with our Football strong traditions, but to relax our standards and bring us down a notch (or more)

A year ago, we had 2 of our governors trying to lobby us into the Big 12 to some extent. Maybe during those meetings, ECU for political, or other reasons was deemed not to enter the club forever. Why not just create an environment where the competition is no longer a thing at ECU, and keep it for UNch, Duke, WF, and NCST.

Someone I trust who is a UNC-W Fan, just said we recently became the largest student body of a university in NC, and I have to trust that means something. My Colleague said I was dillusional, and that ECU is going to clean house, and we will lose our AD, Coach, and most likely our Chanc if things keep on going this route, because of the importance of football at ECU.

Things I have recently noticed that I find exceptionally strange are below.

1. COmpher deleted his Twitter (a while ago, but still embarrassing grow a spine)
2. Mo changed his weekly Show at Roadhouse to Mondays at 1PM?
(limiting fan involvement)
3. Chancellor taking over a Facebook account devoted to the Football team and spreading his vision through it.
4. Our boneyard was down for a long period this past 2 days, and I am thinking the School is trying to limit free speech, and shirking responsibility, or communicating with Alumni, students, and Supporters of the Athletic dept.

Facebook, Twitter, our Radio station, and sports forums are alive with just outrage. Has a school ever combated this so harshly before, and is their actions harsh? Are they earmuffing the screams, kicking and screaming of Pirate Nation as they ruin our tradition? I tell you, if they take down the Pirate Radio Station, something is up at that point.

I'm sorry not sorry that its a little long, and there is no tldr, but. Thoughts when you can, and I appreciate you all.

TLDR: no tldr...:(

I don't buy into any of the theories about anyone sabotaging ECU.

The problem IMO is as simple as this; we have three key leaders that do not understand the culture of ECU.

Interview from 8/10/17, Stephen Igoe interviewing Jeff Compher (SI is founder of Hoist the Colours):

SI: We ran a poll on Hoist the Colours right after your extension, 1200 people voted. Seventy-five percent said they did not approve of your extension. Did you see those numbers and what was your immediate reaction or thoughts on that?

JC: Um, Stephen, I really don't go on any of those websites.

Clueless

Bigfoot has been found and he said he could lead ECU football back to the top... 3 year contract , every win he gets 4 rabbits and a doe. Just asking for a clean cave and needs a personal plane for recruiting.

Fix Football First, but it sounds as if my theories are unwarranted hopefully. No joke though that this season will help me grow as a fan, and appreciate wins and even competitive losses. I can finally say I have been there.

We lived through the JT years, this to shall pass.

Just thank our "lucky" stars that this happened AFTER we got int the AAC, not before. Otherwise we'd be where Southern Miss is....

RE: Question for ECU, and others who have experienced
The biggest problem I see at ECU is the disconnect in the political process of hiring administrators to the mission of the university, goals of it's athletic programs, and goals of it's constituency. The administration don't understand or get the people in our region of the state. Until we get stability at the top it will be hard to accomplish what we need to get done or have our administrators operate on our behalf.

Are the major ECU donors still backing the AD and Chancellor? If those people tell the Board of Trustees clean house or the money stops coming, then ECU will clean house.

However if the BoT and donors don't care about sports then your average ECU fan is SOL

RE: Question for ECU, and others who have experienced
Is it possible that there are some people who see the inevitable split between the top 64 programs form the rest of the programs and are not willing to enter into the arms race at this point? I think every program in the AAC fears this and understands that not everyone will make it, and quite possibly none of the AAC programs would make it. Leaving them to a lower division and a lessor program. So why bankrupt your athletics program just to be cast aside in the future? If there is any "conspiracy" it is just a financial decision not to try to keep up with the big boys

03-lmfao where do you come up with this crap? We just made a couple of bad hires. It happens everywhere. Big 12 and Power 5 is a pipe dream... never gonna happen. Big 12 didn't happen for Houston, Memphis, Cincy, etc either.

BOT is a political process as well, but there are a few on the board that are organic East Carolina people. How much weight they carry or ability to sway the group is the question. It's their responsibility so hopefully they take that seriously and will do the right thing for the institution.

Wow, black helicopters abound? Incidentally, how does one define "organic East Carolina people". Do they grow out of the ground; possibly created from the chemical decomposition of western and central North Carolina people? What exactly?

I don't think its really that complex, at the end of the day the administration made terrible hires across the board. I don't think they want to hurt the programs, they just don't have a clue on how to run athletic programs. You have a basketball coach that thinks winning the CIT and getting 13-15 wins a year is great and deserves more money. You have a football coach who has a WTF do I do now look on his face every time the camera is on him. Lets face it, ECU does not want to pay the money to be successful plan and simple. We are in a conference where quality coaches will come, but not on the cheap like we are doing, until we decide what is more important, new stadium upgrades or a quality coach then what you see is what your going to get.

FWIW, we're dead last in AAC athletic budgets.
