Rip
Maybe it's been posted and I missed it. I just saw that Rip Scherer is the tight end coach at UCLA.

If I had known that before the game I would have been much more confident.

According to Wiki he has had some extended breaks.

With 45 points Saturday, he may have outscored a couple of his season totals at the Liberty Bowl.

?? They were a fine family and good people.

Is it incorrect however to say that we could have done better than having 6 losing seasons in a row ?

His methods more often than not brought eye rolls from the players. Some may not admit it now, but at the time they were NOT buying in. He walked around writing in a Franklin planner all the time. It was just weird.

The apologist for Rip I assume are just caught up because he was magnanimous or possibly because he caught lightning in a bottle against UT one time (a win that ultimately meant squat for us nationally by the way).

He has been gone for a long time, he has been gracious lately when talking about the University and his time here.

Why pile on?

Fair point I guess.

RE: Rip
Tim Hart, who intercepted Rosen for a touchdown, his dad actually played here under Rip Scherer. That had to be a strange feeling for Coach Scherer watching that play unfold. I have to give Woloshin credit for pointing that out on his postgame show.

I think he was a year or two away from leading us to bowl games. He was about to put in a spread...but it was too late for RC already.
Rip had us to where we could compete with UT. The first time we played UT after beating them was at their place. UT qb Tee Martin got off a long pass for them to be able to kick a field goal and UT squeaked by us something like 17-16.
UT fans applauded the Memphis players as they walked off the field that day...classy of them as a fanbase. they are usually so obnoxious.

Lord almighty in what Universe was he taking us to bowl games?

His record at memphis

3-8
4-7
4-7
2-9
5-6
4-7

Total record: 22-44

How the hell did he even coach 6 years? the UT win bought him 2 years

It would've been better for us as a program if we'd lost that game probably. I wouldn't trade it but seriously.

Good D, no offense. Such a grind watching the Tigers under Stobart and Rip.

Good guy, I'm sure, I liked the CA article on him but he set this program back.

We could have been someone with those defenses.
