Television camera behind section 304/305
During the first quarter of the NSU game, I was told by the cameraman behind and between section 304 and 305 that they could not use his camera shots on third down because the camera was shaking so much from my stomping. I really like to make noise on third down, but I don't want to limit the camera angles used on TV. Thoughts?

Keep making the noise. That's all that matters!

Keep stomping. It'll add to the viewing atmosphere. Their camera angles are usually bad anyways. They miss live plays because they're showing replays too long or their camera man can't keep up with the ball carrier.

Tell him to move or you'll start wearing your new sombrero.

On a related note, I have to give it to the camerman at 308-309. At one point this past Saturday he was absolutely covered with streamers (nice throwin' by the folks in 407-409, btw) and never missed a beat. It is a challenge though now.

edit note: forgot to add...keep stompin'...fans watching on TV should feel the realistic view from BFS :>)

The more I think about it. The shaking camera should give the announcers an opportunity to comment:

THIS PLACE IS ROCKIN SO MUCH THE STADIUM IS SHAKING!
JMU FANS ARE ROOTIN! ANOTHER REASON TO ATTEND A GAME!

My seats are not far behind you. Noticed you stopped stomping and just assumed you were saving yourself. No sense in pulling something because you were going hard late in the NSU game. But definitely

KEEP STOMPING!

That's why you place "a" camera up on the old press box on the Godwin side.

There is a camera on the old press box roof. Its a Madizone feed camera. TV production could also be up there there's lots of room.
Most games the "East Side Box" isn't even being used.

I never understood why broadcast TV comes in and sets up cameras on the 300 level when there's 3 perfectly good concrete platforms on the pressbox level. Don't tell me it's too high up! I guess they have their reason but I would love to know why.

Deez, you answered your question yourself. I have talked to the TV production people both MASN and ESPN. They indeed say the built in camera platforms at the pressbox level are to high of an angle for good coverage. 3 years ago they asked JMU to put in lower level camera places. Now they are in the process of try to steady up those platforms to reduce shake, but I think like most if gives the feel of being in BFS. They cant go to the other side as the TV announcers are on opposite sides and make play by play difficult to call. Seems they are in a catch 22 here. Just build the other side up and put Radio, TV over there problem solved.

The problem with putting cameras over there is that they would be shooting toward the sun in afternoon games.

That's not a problem anymore with the height of the stadium on that side. MM moved the home side to the other side so the sun would be in the eyes of the visiting team way back before we had a 160 ft structure on that side. It only a problem of announcers on one side cameras on the other now. Madizone put a roof top cam up there this year, they don't have a sun in the lens problem.
