RE: 2017-18 MBB Predictions
Yes, we know ... we're no longer the Indians, have lost our feathers, can't host an ACC team at the Hall in men's hoops, can't re-enter at half-time of football games, no longer have packed student sections at football and hoops games, no longer get good local press coverage ... should I go on?
But, hey, that's progress, right?

RE: 2017-18 MBB Predictions
Actually we HAVE had packed student sections for any number of Tribe men's basketball games over the past six years and tremendously increased student noise and support at Kaplan Arena. Other than games during the winter school holiday when students are gone break men's basketball games are the shining exception to your statement and beg its revision.

I think you're still looking through the same glasses that saw #4 without a name and without pads.

2017-18 MBB Predictions

It doesn't matter where or when; at the college level, games are won at the defensive end. You can outscore weak teams, but when you're playing someone worth a toot, it's true. The defensive game is built down low. Great defensive teams defend the perimeter as well.

Okay, NOW I'm confused... I guess Nate could play defensive end (although he looks like a linebacker).
I do agree though, they have to defend the perimeter better this season. We don't want to get killed by the three again.

Giving us the benefit of the doubt in the games that count, I'm seeing about 13-13 as our ceiling. Hope I'm wrong.

1977? Rocky Copeley? Matt Courage? We weren't so great at Center even back then. Now, Lowenhaupt was a different story ....

RE: 2017-18 MBB Predictions
Stealing (again) shamelessly from the Wilmington message board:
Place --Athlon---Lindy's--------Blue Ribbon
1-----CofC-------CofC----------CofC
2-----Towson----UNC-W--------Elon
3-----Elon-------Elon-----------Towson
4-----UNC-W----Towson--------NE
5-----Hofstra----Hofstra--------Hofstra
6-----NE---------JMU------------UNC-W
7-----W&M------NE--------------Delaware
8-----Delaware--W&M-----------W&M
9-----Drexel-----Drexel----------Drexel
10----JMU-------Delaware-------JMU
Blue Ribbon is the first to mention a W&M player for any individual honor; they have Matt Millon as newcomer of the year.

2017-18 MBB Predictions
Posted with a grain of salt, since this is always very flawed, but from the College Sports Madness preseason ranking to date:
#46 - CofC
#48 - UCF
#76 - Ohio State
#108 - George Mason
#115 - Elon
#129 - ODU
#133 - Hofstra
Ranking is up to #39, so, TCU will be rated somewhere above that.

Also the Burchfield is a plus defender bit.

RE: 2017-18 MBB Predictions
If all you looked at were steal, block, and rebounding numbers, Omar was our best defender last year. This preview looks like they didn't watch any games, just looked at the box scores. The part about changing our offense to feature Knight (or anyone, really) is also a pipe dream.
Weird that Jihar got a mention but not Luke. They are equally likely to see time this year, I think.
My starting 5 projection is Cohn, Milon, Pierce, Rowley, Knight. We'll see Tot as the backup PG, Burchfield, Jihar, and Luke at the 2/3 with Pierce sliding down as the backup 4 and Harrison backing up at 5. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Cohn/Tot, Milon, Burchfield, Pierce, Rowley lineup at some point.

Burchfield tries on defense. I'm not going to slag on him until the games start.

RE: 2017-18 MBB Predictions
Prewitt may or may not have been our best defender last year but he was clearly our best defensive rebounder and it wasn't even close. Look at the numbers. (Dixon, BTW, was the number two defensive rebounder.)
In addition to our normal problems stopping dribble penetration (by opposing guards, not usually defended by Prewitt) a major concern for us this year is whether to we can hold opposing teams to one, two, three, four ... shots per possession.
My personal, uninformed hope is that Pierce can step into that rebounding role to support Knight. My personal, uniformed fear is that I don't see any other effective defensive rebounders other than perhaps Tot on the team. Perhaps Harrison can do what Whitman did last year, which was to effectively block out the opponents big man so that neither got the rebound. I would be OK with that.

Prewitt led the team in rebounds because he got way more minutes than any other big on the team and it looked like his role was strictly getting the rebounds on defense, whereas Whitman & Knight had to box out the opposing big men to keep them off the glass.

Prewitt played on the baseline in zone defenses so he was always around the basket. I'm sure Pierce will be fine.
