Further evidence that if it's not a rivalry, it certainly has all the makings . . .

I hated the outcome, but I've always thought that this game is a Win/Win for Both schools.

Don't let some of those CUSA elitists say otherwise. Yall were rivals in the SLC and WAC for over 20 years and some of your highest attended games in all sports came against each other. Attendance alone is almost the only indicator necessary.

Can't help that you have tunnel vision. We still care about winning in all sports that we play UTSA in.

Isn't this a football thread? You can't tell me that all other sports get the same attention for this rivalry than football does. HEB even created this whole thing that they are doing. To me football is where all the hype is at. I just have no interest in soccer, track, or the other sports. You won't see me or many people post about them as much as football. So if you guys have a better overall record in them, congratulations.
I'm personally not a fan of this rivalry thing for football. I just don't think it's a worthy rivalry, no offense. But others see it as a big rivalry and that's fine.

I agree, imo UTSA is not a worthwhile rivalry in football. No offense but I would much rather develop a rivalry with a flagship campus rather than a UT- (insert city here). UH seems like the best choice but I would rather see games with Rice or SMU than UTSA.

For non-football I'm happy with our UTA rivalry, they are legit in basketball and baseball and always make for a good opponent. UTSA doesn't have the luster it did when we were in the same conference but come on over to the SBC and that would surely change.

None of the teams you mentioned is going to care about having a rivalry with you though...

Why? Because we're not good right now? We're sitting on the floor of our potential. As a large and centrally located university our on the field product is the only thing holding us back. If we get even remotely good we would be a prime opponent for any G5 in the state. UTSA has a burnt orange ceiling and can be UAB'd if the UT boosters feel even remotely threatened. That is not what I would consider ideal for growing a rivalry with and I bet other schools feel the same. Once Applewhite gets plucked up to a P5 program and UH comes down to reality the TXST - UH matchup looks better than substituting UTSA in for either school.

UH comes down to reality? Houston, relatively speaking, has done nothing over the last 25 years and it still has a history that puts UTSA or Texas State to shame. Houston has already come down to reality after making a name for itself in a major conference.

I certainly would like a series with Texas State over Rice. Texas State actually brings fans to Houston sporting events, something Rice mostly doesn't even though many of their fans could walk and taxi over to UH.

Between the two (UTSA), Texas State has the most potential. They'll never be P5 but could certainly become an AAC-level program.

I would think txst could develop a good rivalry between uh and even texas tech but since utsa is just down the freeway, those games should still draw well. utsa just doesnt have a long term sports history with anybody.

I love the games with y'all. Easy to get to games and I really enjoy your new stadium. Plus UH brought a fun crowd to San Marcos.
