2002–03 ODU 12–15
2003–04 ODU 17–12
2004–05 ODU 28–6 NCAA 1st Round
2005–06 ODU 24–10 NIT Semifinals*
2006–07 ODU 24–9 NCAA 1st Round
2007–08 ODU 18–16
2008–09 ODU 25–10
2009–10 ODU 27–9 NCAA 2nd Round
2010–11 ODU 27–7 NCAA 2nd Round
2011–12 ODU 22–14
2012–13 ODU 2–20

8 Mediocre/Bad seasons, 4 Good seasons

*I don't actually consider the NIT FF a "mediocre season," but since the definition of a good season is NCAAs or bust, BT must be held to the same standard as JJ.
So JJ's best season is equal to Blaine's 5th best season. What's your point?

I already stated my point...then you tried to disprove my point by cherry-picking data.

No, you brought JJ into it. What was the point of that?

I didn't count Blaine's 1st 2 years because it wasn't his players and his last 2 years because he mailed it in.

In 2011 ODU lost in the 1st round to Butler. We did not make the 2nd round.i

The first two years is fair, but how can you not count two years "he mailed in" as if that wasn't on him?

NIT and not the NCAA.

General question (not necessarily directed to you): if the CAA would have been a one bid league like CUSA how many years would BT have gotten to the tournament?

No NCAA, early exit in the CUSA tournament, and frankly a disappointing season from the start of CUSA play on.

It was most certainly on him. In fact, I was one of the first to call for his head and I got roasted for it. It was not reflective on his ability to coach when mentally healthy. His last 2 years was a train wreck, but the guy was probably the best coach in ODU history when he was clicking on all cylinders. He wasn't coaching blue chip recruits and grad transfers through that run either. They were his group of mostly rag tag misfits that he developed.

The result was an NIT final 4. Blaine did that as well as make the big dance 4 times, which would make the result his 5th best season. It isn't rocket science.

He only got 1 at large bid so that would make 3 bids.

The hypothetical that you presented is interesting to contemplate.

On the one hand if the CAA was a one bid league when ODU was in it then it would have been a league with fewer strong teams in it. As such, assuming that ODU was still as strong as they were at the time, it would therefore have been easier for them to win the conference tournament each year and get the NCAA Tournament auto bid. Potentially that could have led to even more appearances for ODU.

On the other hand, ODU may have had more difficulty getting some of the same recruits if the CAA was a weaker league and therefore would possibly not have won the league title any more times than they did. They also would not likely have gotten the at large bids that they did get under those circumstances.

Bottom line ... It could have been more appearances, could have been less, or could have stayed the same (depending on the unknown circumstances). We'll never know for sure.

Who gives a sh*t about Blaine Taylor. I assure you he doesn't give a sh*t about us. He made it clear the last time we picked him up off the bar room floor.

Oh I agree, but some are trying to erase and minimize that 7-8 year run that has thus far been the highlight of ODU sports history and are even implying that times are better right now.

Disagree. Guy had some problems but he loved ODU. Would love to come back I'm guessing.

We shouldn't have to rehash this. But he sure didn't show that love with how he prioritized the players and team the last couple years.

**** happens, and I wasn't a fan for the last few years, but I do think he cared/cares.

Blaine absolutely cared. Alcoholism is a disease. He worked through it and got the help he needed. I for one respect what he did for ODU during his time as a coach. That run we had from 2009-2011 was some of best basketball played at ODU. I for one wish him nothing but the best.

Agreed, hope he does well in the future. ODU honored him by including his name with some of the greats in the new practice facility.
