Let's talk Navy
Line was Navy -10.5 now -11.5

Look Navy has beaten FAU 42-19 and Tulane 23-21

Tulane is improved but not much based on OK score of 56-14

I like our chances.

I think it will be a fairly close game. I would take Cincinnati with those odds, although I favor Navy to win.

I like our depth on defensive line against their run oriented offense. I think our offense showed improvement as yesterdays game wore on. Running game is picking up and need to stop the dropped passes and interceptions. Bearcats by 4 in another close one.

With the targeting penalty, I would guess we'll be without Perry Young for this game. That's gonna hurt our chances IMO.

Navy had a bye week this weekend. UC will have less than a week to prepare for Navy's option offense, which they excel at. They are able to run the ball against virtually every opponent, including Ohio State and Notre Dame and Houston. They are among the nation's rushing leaders every year. Their weakness is pass defense. But our passing offense has been virtually non-existent so far this year. I'm expecting a close game but Navy deserves to have been installed as the favorite. Navy 31-Cincinnati 24. I'll be at the game and will be rooting for the Red and Black.

Hope you are right. However, Navy is a much better team than Miami.

It was definitely a tale of two halves on the offensive side of the ball. Having the ability to run opens up the pass and vice versa. It felt like some confidence was growing with the offense and thank the Lord Lewis grabbed a few balls including the TD. I don't know about a win but I like us keeping it close. Our DL is potentially beast mode with talent and depth. I still couldn't believe how big the DE Mouhon looked from last year. Dude has some serious guns. Again, CLF and that offseason weight training and conditioning program has done wonders with this team.

Seemed like Miami lost a step in the second half.
We won't wear Navy out in the second half.

CLF did state that they worked on the Navy offense during camp and felt it will help in the prep during the week.

I think our D keeps gives us a great chance. Offense improves a little bit more. Bearcats 28 or 27- Navy 24. Go bearcats!

RE: Let's talk Navy
The single thing teams always worry about when playing Navy is dinging up their Defensive...especially the D-line...personnel by chop blocks and the bruising style of play by the option. Navy tends to grind down oposing D-lines as the game goes on. We REALLY need the Offense to give the Defense a break and some limits in this game.

If this game comes all down on the Defense, I'm going to be worried not only about this single game, but about injuries coming out of this game.

That's what I'm worried about too. As long as we remain healthy, that's a win for me, because I was pegging this for a loss from day one.

The one positive is that Fickell has prepared for Navy twice in the last three years, so he has more than enough tape/scout on that offense to be successful.

I agree completely with your analysis. I'll file it in my mind under "I needed something to worry about before Saturday's game,". But seriously, we are one or two key injuries away from losing what may be a season long competitive advantage with what has become a solid defensive line. Win or lose, no injuries please.

My fear is that we have a roster full of guys that have never played Navy. While Fickell, Tenuta, etc. can provide the right gameplan to defend the option, the guys on the field have never seen it. And especially to see it at the speed and level of proficiency that Navy will run it.

Our offense is going to need to break out because my sense is Navy will put some points on the board.

Oh for sure, but at least we have guys teaching the way to read and putting them in the proper position...but yeah, having little to no exposure on the player side to a triple-option offense is a bit of a problem.

RE: Let's talk Navy
Playing Devil's Advocate, I like our chances against Navy because they are primarily a run based offense. I think with our defensive line and speed at linebacker we can slow their rushing attack down. Navy does not have much of a passing attack, so we don't have to worry about Grant Coleman and Linden Stephens giving up the big play like we have seen for the past 5 years.

On offense, we need to continue running the football. This week we should have Boone back-- in addition to running the football he has good hands out of the backfield. Warren and Doaks should continue to be fed as well. I'd wear the Navy defense down with those three, which should result in some big gains in the second half as the Midshipmen's legs grow tired.
