Maine watched from home this week and see us only allow one meaningful TD by our first team in our first three games. That one TD was also on a 25 yard drive set up by a Schor INT.

UD will watch next week as we dispatch Maine and then they can't use the "weak strength of schedule" excuse to dismiss our first three games as easily. Their fans tout their good defense but fail to mention their mediocre at best offense. Our defense is also ranking better against a negligibly worse SOS rating compared to UD through three weeks.

Realistic UD fans know what's coming. They are just hoping the final score isn't too humiliating.

Personally, I'm wary of Rocco and a UD program desperate to post a marque win. I expect MH will have the team focused, but this is why you play the games.

CAA just wants some competitive games with JMU lol..

Good. Means JMU will be more tested..I want JMU to go 11-0, but I don't want 11-0 with every game by 3 TDs to 60+.. Want the team to be battle tested, have to face 4th quarter adversity with a couple of 1 to 2 score games before the playoffs. I don't think we'll see that test from both Maine and UD, but might see it from one of them..

In 2015, W&M had Villanova and UNH the following week each after their bye weeks so it's happened before. We won both easy. I expect you guys will too.

It sticks in our craw a bit because Maine and UD (as well as Richmond) had byes before their games with us last year.

I heard at least one conference (can't remember which) has a rule that both teams must have the same amount of preparation time. It seems like a reasonable thing to do and one would think it shouldn't be that hard to implement.

Well, in fairness, JMU does have a bye week before VU, who as of now appears to be the best CAA team JMU will face.

I love you BDK, but I don't think Villanova is the best we'll face in the CAA. Villanova spanked a crappy Lafayette team last week. But, they barely beat a Lehigh team that doesn't appear to be all that good. They also lost to a Temple team that, although FBS, looks to be not that good either (the Temple--ECU game should be a grrrreat one). I think Delaware or Maine may be our biggest test.

I should have said on paper (I don't pay attention to the polls this early, but I assume VU is the next highest ranked). You're probably right- tougher games will probably be Maine and UD, in part because of their bye weeks before JMU. While UD hasn't been as good out the gate (offense) as I thought Rocco would have them, they'll likely get better as the season goes on. I actually said on the season prediction thread 14-1 with a loss either @ ECU or UD...

Paul Johnson complained enough about opponents often having byes the week before playing GT that the ACC announced this offseason that they've changed their scheduling practices:

RE: CAA Scheduling Bye after Bye 2017 edition
FWIW as far as I can tell I found 5 CAA teams facing 2 teams coming off of byes. 3 I saw that were in consecutive weeks facing teams coming off of byes: JMU, Maine and VU (Although in VU's case its because Maine had their game @ UCF cancelled).

Maine:
10/14 URI who will be coming off a bye.
10/21 @ Albany who will be coming off a bye.

VU
10/7 Maine (who will be coming off of a bye due to their UCF game being cancelled)
10/14 @ JMU who will be coming off of a bye.

SBU:
9/30 @ W&M who will be coming off a bye.
10/14 UNH who will be coming off a bye.

RU:
10/14 @ TU who will be coming off a bye.
10/28 SBU who will be coming off a bye.

Of the 5 facing 2 teams coming off of byes, SBU might have the easiest schedule, as they miss JMU, VU, and Elon.

Teams facing 1 CAA opponent coming off of a bye: Albany, Elon, URI.

Teams facing no CAA opponents coming off of a bye: UD, UNH, W&M, TU.

I know UD fans were bitching aboout 2 years in a row being the only team (I think) to be missing URI and Elon (in addition to UNH).

UNH appears on paper (at least before the season started) as having the best schedule: No teams coming off of byes, miss VU, RU, UD.
