RE: Who wins CUSA this year? (Week 3 Poll)
With apologies to UTSA fans, and with substantial chagrin and regret regarding LA Tech fans, I went with LA Tech. Right now, I think UTSA is well overrated. Unfortunately, we did not get a true measuring stick with the cancellation of the Houston game. Southern? 'Nuff said. Baylor. Eked out a win over a Baylor team whose administration, football staff and players have been decimated by firings and transfers. Baylor is now 0-3 with losses to Liberty, UTSA and Duke, an FCS school, a G5 school, and a bottom tier ACC school. So, Runner fans, I am just saying, that to me, we don't (yet) have enough to say last year's 6-7 team has magically morphed into the West Division favorite.

Meanwhile, despite 3rd and 93 last week (LMFAO), LT Tech beat WKU on the road and has a kick start to conference play with an interdivision win. I think the West initially comes down to LA Tech or USM, and right now it looks like Tech to me.

East? Good lord, who knows? Realistically, I think at this point there remain five teams who could wind up representing the East in the championship game (in alphabetical order -- FAU, Marshall, MTSU, ODU and WKU). If I have to make a pick now, I'll just be a homer and go with ODU -- but that is nothing more than a half-hearted homer pick. Maybe finally settling on our freshman QB yesterday will help get our offense in gear.

Anyway -- that's the Aggie Report. Signing off for now.

Pretty darn accurate post right there. I agree with almost all of it. No disrespect to UTSA, but by avoiding Houston and with Baylor's massive downfall, UTSA just really hasn't been challenged yet. So, while the rest of us have played some real football teams in 2017, UTSA just really hasn't yet. That's not a criticism, just a fact. Next up for UTSA: Texas State. Really? 03-puke

Anyway, I think UTSA is good.....we just don't know how good yet.

The young LA Tech team matured a lot against WKU. It was a classic case where LA Tech got stronger as the game went longer. Things are just now starting to click for LA Tech. The Dawgs get another growing opportunity when they visit the SEC's South Carolina this Saturday. 04-drinky

I still believe WKU is the team to beat in the east. Some of our CUSA brethren should be arrested for some of the weak sisters they schedule in football. (You people know who you are.) WKU is not guilty of this kind of absurd, weak scheduling. Don't let the WKU fans fool you.....WKU is still the real deal. WKU will win a lot of games this year, and is still my pick to win the east.

You claim it's not a criticism, but when you put it that way, it certainly sounds like one. I agree that we haven't had a difficult schedule yet, but that's not our fault. No one saw a hurricane coming when we scheduled Houston, and Baylor was scheduled prior to the whole investigation. That said, I believe that most Roadrunner fans are also wondering exactly where we are at this point, but I'm definitely looking forward to our rematch next week in San Marcos with our long-time rival Texas State, regardless of what sort of team they're fielding this season.

It's fair to have reservations about the team until they play better competition but I don't think it's fair to say UTSA "eeked" out a win at Baylor. Statistics were lopsided in our favor despite conservative offensive playcalling and a bend dont break defensive philosophy in the 4th Qtr. It never really felt like the outcome was in doubt.

Texas St just played Appy State tough btw. Lost 20-13 and came up one yard short of tying the game in regulation.

I know sarcasm when I see it... 03-wink

Honestly I can't figure out the east this year. But we're still in first place in the west (now, T-1) and are going to hold on to that until somebody takes it from us!

lol....you won't have to wait too much longer 03-wink

RE: Who wins CUSA this year? (Week 3 Poll)
Well UTSA was picked to finish 2nd in the West and they haven't yet given any reason to think otherwise in the two games they have played. While on the other hand, some of the other CUSA teams that were predicted to finish at the top aren't performing to the expectations. So yeah I get it, UTSA has only played Baylor and Southern, being the underdog in Baylor and destroying Southern. But it's not like Duke put a pounding on Baylor yesterday...

RE: Who wins CUSA this year? (Week 3 Poll)
I'm going with "other" for now as well. Just too early.

The east division is a mess right now with Marshall not playing awful. Doc has them playing defense. That's huge! Play within your limitations and you can take the division.

MTU, without its 2 best offensive weapons, gets a pass for losing, but Minnesota exploited your run defense. You're going to flail until Stockstill gets back.

WKU, along with winning the last 2 titles, has graduated a lot of talent, but still has a good bit, is breaking in a new head coach. Early returns aren't great. You're only one game behind. I wouldn't throw in the towel yet. White gives you a shot in every game.

FAU and FIU are determining the FBS-level-talent gaps they have at different positions. Same thing going for ODU and Charlotte, but they've been doing that for a couple of years now. UNC was a good measuring stick - Fedora is a good coach.

In the west, La Tech has the early lead, but like Marshall, isn't polished at all, if any. Smith appears to be a good foundation to build around. Not impressed with the running game or secondary.

UTSA got its sternest test in Baylor so far. Not sure what that means other than playing against some Big12 linemen. They get a moderate road test in Texas State next week before an off week to prepare for USM's visit. Still not ready to hand them the west title. Want to see how they handle a "big" game.

UNT held its own versus Iowa, a top-tier B1G program, for a good chunk of this game. Keep building. Good energy.

UAB beat a new Sunbelt/FBS program in CCU. They get an interesting measuring stick in UNT next. Both are building. We'll see how far along both programs are. Have a feeling that both may be ahead of FIU and FAU. Charlotte?

UTEP and Rice are awful. No candy-coating that. New energy needed.

USM handled an out-classed Sunbelt team. Our retooling OLine is still hindering both passing and running games. We have a strong defense, especially the back-7, that shutdown ULaMo's passing game. ULaMo's rushing totals are skewed by the one long scramble. We have a week off to prepare for UNT's visit. I like our confidence level going into these next 2 games.

Other: WKU beats UTSA 28-27 in the championship game, Liberty cashes in its Money in the Bank briefcase and beats WKU 31-10 for the title. We have to wait until the following Monday to see how it gets resolved.

Take ODU out of the poll. After the **** show yesterday i am convinced that our defense is not ready for big games and Offense lost our Starting RB, WR, Right Tackle and TE for the year oh wait our TE might be back in few weeks but rest are gone for the year and we took redshirt off of our 17 Yr freshman QB. I do not have much hope for the season may be we will win some games and make it to a bowl this year. Oh well onto watching my team get destroyed again at VT next week.

RE: Who wins CUSA this year? (Week 3 Poll)
I'm going with La Tech and Marshall in the title game. I like what I have seen so far from Marshall.

Since the beginning of the year I have been selling on WKU, MT and UTSA. I think they are all solid teams. UTSA, in my opinion, is one more year away. WKU lost a lot more talent than people gave them credit for and the coaching staff still hasn't put together a solid game plan. MT, with Stockstill healthy, is a contender but I just don't think their defense is good enough this season.

ODU hasn't mustered anything resembling a good offense yet. I think they will be lucky to win 7 games. Maybe FAU? They are a dark horse. They certainly have looked better each week, but I want to hold my opinion until I see a game with my own eyes instead of just looking at box scores.

The thing about FAU (and, to a lesser degree, FIU) is that we do have piles of FBS level talent. FAU, in particular, has recruited at the top of C-USA the last three years. Problem has been the coaching. It is still a question mark. We will have to wait and see if Kiffin can coach us to the top of C-USA's heap.
