Dorms look nice, but where is that homey feel of the old Bigelow study room? And the enjoyment of sharing the TV room with 40 others to watch reruns of Star Trek TOS (it was 8 years old in 1975)?

In the final analysis, Dorm memories are the people you meet and the events you share. It was great.

Having been there more recently, good god i hated that room. The one year i lived in Bigelow, a group of 10-15 guys literally just about moved into the lounge, even sleeping in there more often than not without showering. trashed the place. Only ended when their ringleader's mom came in and literally dragged him out by the ear because he stopped answering her phone calls...

RE: Valleys to be Replaced
I lived in Fox 1965. Brand new or close. I thought it was fabulous. Gained 20 pounds in the cafeteria. We practically seduced the food ladies to get an extra scoop.

AC? Nobody even knew what it was in those days. Never had AC at home growing up.

Now? First class HVAC is a given. AC does more than cool, also removes humidity. Better overall. Won't cost that much to run for a few weeks late spring and early fall.

Loved Fox Hall moved in in 1970. It was at the furthest reaches of the campus but the walking to class from there helped to keep the pounds down. Never missed the AC used the oscillating fans in early September and that seemed to do the job. We were out of there in late April before the weather turned really warm .

RE: Valleys to be Replaced
Looks like there has been a change of plans.

Leaving Valleys alone for now while they refocus on rebuilding Elmwood Apts.

Details should be released soon, if not already.

What's "rebuilding" mean?

Tearing down and building something new.

Elmwood Apts have been the ugliest eyesore on campus since before I went to WMU in the 80's. I hate the 60's style box buildings with the letters on them. They have the architectural beauty of an old mobile home, and they are right out there for anyone to see. At least I think I am thinking about the Elmwood Apts, arent I? If so, I like the choice to tear them down first.

Yeah, that's them. And I agree. They've always been terrible. When viewed from Stadium Drive, it makes our campus look like an Eastern Bloc affordable housing complex.

Exactly. A few times when I came to games with friends who hadnt ever been to WMU, I gave a campus tour. I always offer apologies when we go by Elmwood Apts. Most colleges have some cruddy looking buildings, but with all the investment that has gone on over the past 20+ years i cant believe they haven't bulldozed those buildings. Honestly, they could have at least built a nice looking wall to hide the apartments from everything else.

RE: Valleys to be Replaced
Best just bulldozing them completely and making it a grassy area. (Campus needs more grassy areas). With the new Western View apartments, no need for the Elmwood Apartments too.

Also, I heard the plan was to destroy the Valley Apartments and make it all soccer fields (and redo the current soccer fields there so there's actual drainage), but that was budget-cutted several years ago.
