It's a bonding experience.

As I recall the last 'free' Memphis Madness attracted too many 'trouble makers' off the street who were more interested in their idea of a good time than watching the Tigers. A $5 charge probably deters this.

The $5 charge is surprising, but a good idea. I think it should be held on campus at the Field House for a more intimate setting than FedEx.

There was a need to make it a ticketed affair to protect the blue hairs so why not charge a little for it and make a few dollars

I stood out there for hours... packed shoulder to shoulder with a ton of folks for Madnesses. We talked about this and that, and devised a plan to get us the best seats. When the doors opened, we blocked for that guy who took off like a bolt of lightning. lol.

The $5 cost keeps the trouble makers out. Makes perfect sense, at least to me.

The Mighty Sound of the South will be there. I'd pay more just to see them.

Yep thanks to josh killing the program, yes. And it probably was fewer than 1,500.

the "troublemakers" were there for a free rap show, not for the Memphis Tigers.

I love Al Green, but it's the players' program and I wouldn't blink if they like music somewhat more contemporary than the good reverend.

The turnout will be an indicator of the degree of enthusiasm generated by Tubby. My guess is - like the margins of the last two games lost - a new record will be set for failure. Obviously, I hope I am wrong.

To me this has nothing to do with tubby. This is a screw up by the marketing department. Having it on a Thursday night and charging money is a setup for failure. Especially since this will be in front of a lot of recruits.

I love Al too. I've seen him perform several times over the years. I saw him shopping at the Germantown Krogers like a month or so ago. He was wearing sunglasses, nobody seemed to recognize him. My son was with me and I turned to him and said...let's go meet Al Geen. He was buying fresh salmon. He was very nice to us. I told my son he's one of the great singers of all time, then Al looked at my son grabbed his Adams apple and busted out one of his high notes that he's famous for. He smiled shook our hands and strolled off. Funny.

Crowds show up for events (e.g. concerts) on weekdays when motivated. The date and minimal cost will tend to lower attendance, but sufficient fans infused with hope will make the trek and make it a decent sized crowd, IMO.

Also, you are assuming Tubby had no influence on the date, cost, and venue. If Tubby had influence, then Tubby bears some blame. If Tubby had no influence , then Tubby should be faulted for not accepting the responsibility of controlling the important event like his predecessors.

Wow.

I think that's a good thing. People value what they have to pay for.

That logic has worked splendidly for the Commercial Appeal.
