There are portions of the 'net that work like that for some people. But like a binky, its effectiveness is quite limited. And because of the stunned interpersonal development you mentioned, their reactions to disagreements are equally child-like.

That, to me, speaks to a psychological condition. What kind of sane person hates what someone else on the internet says about you?

If we are ever going to come together as a country, we need to accept each other's differences and move toward some sort of common ground.

Agreed. But one has to realize that people you vehemently disagree with are just as American as everyone else. They can't be wished away and destroying their livelihood doesn't lacks a rational justification.

I disagree. I think many in this forum and around this country actually believe that if you don't believe the way they do, you are unamerican.

That is the problem.

Crowding would logically, as a survival mechanism for the species, cause some adjustments. One result might be anti-social, aggressive behavior and another an increase in tribalism. A third would be reduced fertility. 2) degrading of the gene pool. As civilization has increased, the less fit are able to survive and reproduce more. The more fit tend to find other things to do than have a large family. Net result is that there are more less fit people-quickly. To illustrate the math, if the 80% more fit reproduce with 1.5 children and the 20% less fit reproduce with 3 children, the two groups are equal in just 2 generations.

I'm watching it become more of a disease every day the sun rises....

a simple example would be as follows....

at southern miss, we have multiple crossings from dorms/parking areas to campus where the speed limit is 15 mph and there are raised/speed humps as designated crosswalks.....it is MS law to stop AND remain stopped when any person is in the cross zone....

here's where it gets stupid.....the area they walk out of is cheap arse iron wrought fenced with landscaping that potentially hides the student from view if the driver is at speed with no one crossing (meaning, the driver doesn't don't have to stop and can continue w/o braking if no one is in the walkway)....

should they make it a mandatory stop??? that would be the dippo's solution...

these dipshites never look up today.....I flat out called two little twats XACLY! that with a few choice other jingles as they turned that corner just the other day.....

we had someone run over last year b/c their pea brain was buried in their phone as they crossed....

IMO, the 'smart' phone is easily the early 21st century version of the antichrist.....it's easily become my number one pet peeve simply due to the intelligence level of the average user has fallen to levels never witnessed in my lifetime...even the D/F stoners had more sense in the '60s/70s than some of these prima donna dipshites...

it's gotten to the point where I'm amazed that some of these stupid ******* can still wipe their arse w/o an app....

'too easy' is the undoing of the soul as defined in line 1b)....

I took for granted this wouldn't happen ~20 years down the road........I was dead wrong.....

Just wait until K-12 becomes an online event. At least when it is brick and mortar, there remains a higher eschelon of people that learn to communicate, negotiate, and get schit done... but how much cheaper would it be to present the material online. Could probably cut 80% of the budget in facilities and do the work in an entire school district with only a handful of teachers by automating the grading and submitting lessons as prerecorded webinars. No more busses to deal with either. I betcha when the debt gets called and the money stops flowing from Dee Cee and a few more school shooting sprees occur, 'dem local yahoos gonnah see dolla sines and contractors are going to be tripping all over themselves to develop solutions.

It's already happening. Brick and Mortar schools are decreasing as more and more people are choosing to home school their kids.

I don't have a problem with it. It's their right to do so. I do see however how a kids social skills are greatly diminished by it.

I've seen first hand how ill prepared children who are home schooled are when it comes to socializing with other kids.

Public school kids eat them alive.

My observation is that they are much better at socializing with adults.

I was on foot going through Emory University on a school day recently. I saw dozens of kids. Only one female did not have a phone or some sort of computer in her hand. Not everyone was looking at it, but most were, even the ones walking with other people. It was like it was glued to their hand. The vast majority of the males, but not quite as high a percentage, were similar.

And its about every other day one of those students walks in front of my car without once looking up from their phone. And its usually hard to guess which way they are going. Sometimes they are stopped, then suddenly walk into the cross-walk without once tearing their eyes from the screen.

funny how things work out when the kid/parent actually have to perform work instead of only using their thumbs....

teachers today are amazingly ill equipped to handle this generation.....

and what is the root of the problem?????????

#AUTOMATION in the classroom......

it's pathetic how today's gen is being 'trained'.....

hell, even back in my day, our 10th grade geometry teacher had to abandon teaching postulate, corollary, and theorem discipline due to the overall lack of ability from the class...was simply one more thing I learned myself whilst the dunces listened to regurgitation....
