It's been 50 years since Minni has won a Pig title, Peej is their to change the culture
No he is there because the Minnesota job was his life long dream.
He's there for 3,500,000 reasons, and the two above are not included in that total.

Well, it's a B1G job where there's opportunity to be coaching one of the "elite" teams in the future. If we does well in MN, he'll be ditching it to go to Texas, Notre Dame, Ohio State, or wherever.

Wait, he stated he was offered more to stay than to leave, so it couldn't have been money.

You're right. It wasn't for the money. He was offered 10 years @ $3m a year. A $30m contract (even though 500k less for an annual salary in comparison).
If he just wanted the money and solidity -- like, he was an old coach like Ohio's HC-- he would have stayed.

I heard it was $2M for 10 years =$20M
He settled for what? 5 years at $3.5M =$17.5M
At any rate, gotta love PJ math.
And since he never signed the extension, whatever it may have been, it's a mute point.

In 5 years:
WMU: 10M
UM: 17.5M
Jump to Texas/Florida/Notre Dame/etc in in 5 years
In 10 years:
WMU: 20M
UM: 35M
UF/UT/ND: 25M + 17.5M of first 5 years at UM: 42.5

That makes sense. So when Peej said I could have made more had I stayed, it was your typical Peej BS where he's making it look like he loved Minnesota so much that he passed up money to be there, even though he really didn't.
"Aren't I awesome, I took a pay cut to come here. Don't you love me.

WMU had more contract money on the line... but then again I understand you’re not that stupid but at this point I’m not sure.

Not gonna keep a coach like PJ... and honestly I believe that worked in WMU’s favor... he did more than I thought he could have before he left and in his wake we have a fabulous coach taking over!!!

Not that I care either way, but do we have concrete facts about what WMU offered him or just the "I heard it was blah, blah, blah.....?"

It was stated when he left that WMU gave him a 5 year offer for 4 mill a year... but the problem is... he was already knee deep in Minnesota's bits at that point... He had NO intention of staying with WMU before the Cotton Bowl even occurred...
Honestly I think it couldn't have gone better for WMU... long run. PJ did his thing... moved on.. left us with a stable of talent and we pulled in a coach that fit right in... win win.

The bigger point is that even if he stayed here and took that deal (4 years, $20 million), it’s a losing proposition for him long-term. If he didn’t leave at the time he left, he could’ve easily missed his window. So he did actually make the wisest (also safest) financial decision long-term. Coaches who stay too long at MAC schools don’t often get rewarded. They get fired. Solich is the lone exception. Welcome to college football.

If you knew anything about Kalamazoo, there is plenty of money available. Not that unfathomable if you consider two multi-millionaires recently gave the City a cool $70 million.
There’s also the Kalamazoo Promise...
Not sure why so many people don’t believe this. Probably just because it’s unprecedented.
