They want so badly to be like their heroes in Seattle, San Francisco, and Portland.

Too bad for them, they're surrounded by common sense.

None of this should stand.

Federal and State law should preempt these silly little nut jobs diluting the minority voter's legal voice.

As long as it's just their local elections, whatever floats their boat is fine with me.

This will go to court system as it does have precedent setting factors. Hopefully, judges have some smarts and overturn.

So C.P. is OK with Russians (and Mexicans and Koreans and Iranians and Martians) interfering in elections now.

Incrementally, one (insert whatever here) at a time, they are chipping away at the foundational principles of this country. Today it's College Park, next year it's the entire county, then the state.

They are not the only town, multiple others in Maryland have done this also.

As much as I hate to say this, unless Maryland law says otherwise... they can do this.. (stupidly of course):

[quote]Note that in all of this, though, the Constitution never explicitly ensures the right to vote, as it does the right to speech, for example. It does require that Representatives be chosen and Senators be elected by "the People," and who comprises "the People" has been expanded by the aforementioned amendments several times. Aside from these requirements, though, the qualifications for voters are left to the states. And as long as the qualifications do not conflict with anything in the Constitution, that right can be withheld. For example, in Texas, persons declared mentally incompetent and felons currently in prison or on probation are denied the right to vote. It is interesting to note that though the 26th Amendment requires that 18-year-olds must be able to vote, states can allow persons younger than 18 to vote, if they chose to.[quote]

The constitution only says on what grounds you cannot stop a citizen of the United States from voting. (15th/19th/26th amendments)

RE: College Park decides Tuesday whether to allow noncitizens to vote
IMO, it's probably up to the state of Maryland......a state issue.

For example, if Austin Texas decided to do the same thing, I'm betting at the state level, if it weren't already against the state constitution - the state legislature would amend the state constitution to disallow it.

Democratic controlled Maryland......probably no questioning of the allowance...

Glad I don't live in Maryland.

I'm not saying that we should allow this or change the Constitution but what would happen if we did allow non citizens to vote?

What are the arguments for or against it?

That's it? That's all you got?

There was a time when only land owners could vote. That was changed to all citizens.

What would happen if we let everyone who lives in the country? Would that change anything?
