Good places to eat in Lafayette or Mobile?
I am an auto insurance claims adjuster. I have been in Houston for the last 10 days assisting our flooded policyholders. I was hoping to still be here this weekend to get a chance to sneak away to watch my Mountaineers in San Marcos, but alas I was told to pack up and drive to the Tampa area tomorrow. A long day in the car no doubt but with airport service sporadic and rental cars likely scarce, its probably for the best. I expect to be passing through Lafayette around breakfast time and Mobile around lunch time. Any suggestions on good places to try, fast and close-ish to I-10?

You can't go wrong with Felix's on the causeway just east of downtown Mobile. You really can't go wrong with anything along the causeway. Some of the best seafood you will ever find.

I've always said the best food in the conference is in Lafayette. I'm sure you can a local place that will have some sort of crawfish omelet or something if that nature.

I agree, for that trip, take the causeway after the tunnel and pick any of the places, you can't go wrong.

If you like seafood then the restaurants off the Causeway (near the Battleship) are a great choice. I would recommend Felix's. It's right off I-10 so it'll minimize downtime.

If you like cheese grits with your shrimp I would recommend the Oyster House on the Causeway.

In Lafayette, The French Press, for breakfast, or if you like a diner atmosphere then try Mel's. I'll try to run down an old post with lots of restaurant options by thpe.

Felix's and Wentzell's (although that seems to be a bit of a regional chain and not exclusive to Mobile) are both amazing.

The she-crab soup at Felix's is about the best I've had anywhere.

Crab soup at Felix's is fantastic. Wife loves Spot of Tea for breakfast in Mobile. Chargrilled oysters at Wintzells

Lafayette I've enjoyed Prejeans, Blue Dog and Shucks in Abbeville.

I'm normally not a fan of cooked oysters....but those are unbelievable.

Wentzell's was the first place I went when I got to town prior to the USA game last year.

Wintzell's loves the Red Wolves and the food is pretty good. I thought Felix's was the best meal I have in Mobile.

Do not eat at the restaurant near the USS Alabama. It was awful. It was like a Luby's with mushy, bland food for older individuals.

In Mobile, 2 restaurants downtown are really good. Maybe on pricey side but quality is outstanding.

Dauphin's is a restaurant on the 34th floor of the RSA tower in downtown. Views alone make the experience. A lot of coastal favorites on the menu plus extensive wine selection.

Dumbwaiter is also a good choice. Atmosphere isn't as good as Dauphin's but IMO the food is better. Grilled brussel sprouts as an appetizer are a favorite.

I'm not from the chamber of commerce, but the attachment below was put together about 3-4 years ago for some parents coming in for one of the regional's hosted in Lafayette. The only thing I've added was the Drago's previously mentioned. I purposely tried to leave out the common chain restaurants of which we have all your favorites if that's your cup of tea.

Drago in NOLA has been disappointing the past few trips. Hopefully better leadership for the Lafayette location.

Wintzell's is no longer exclusive to Mobile but I'm fairly certain the one downtown is the original location.
