Similar.

I was sitting at my desk, tv probably on Mike and Mike back when that was watchable/listenable. Wife was either on her way to work or had just gotten to her office when she called me and told me to turn on the news.

I flipped it over and was watching rather intently, within a few minutes plane two zooms into the picture and then this horrible sinking feeling. Then hearing the demise of Barbara Olsen who had been on TV as a commentator for years at that point, almost like someone you knew.

I grew up in NoVa., and one constant was the air traffic, we were in one of the flight paths for Reagan National. Weirdest thing was heading up there in the days or a week or two after to go to Mom's house. Not a plane in the sky. Was VERY noticeable as you headed up 95, was always a handful of jets overhead. This time, not a one. Really odd.

Never forget.

My Mother in law drove a few days later to have my wife help her in a paper she had for her degree.

We went to Monticello and Mt. Vernon the next few days. No planes overhead. Strange to experience those places as though we were in the 18th Century.

One plane flew overhead and people freaked out since there was a ground stop on all traffic.

RE: Never Forget
I was in my sophomore year of college in a history course when someone ran into the room, literally busted through the door and yelled "World Trade Center just got hit by a plane!"

Everyone scrambled to pack their notes and books and ran out of the class with the professor. We all gathered in a nearby large study room and watched in horror as the second plane hit. At that point the students from NYC were frantically trying to call relatives in NY, tears on many faces, anger setting in.

At that point, nobody cared who was conservative, liberal, black, asian, white, hispanic. We were all American and we were all angry. Inside all of us, we knew there would be a military response for this and nobody opposed it.

I agree, it feels like yesterday. Watching the small shadows fall from the towers from floors just above the smoke. Then watching the towers fall and people running through the streets.

Is this how people felt in 1957? Still wondering what causes a human to hate another so much to do something like this?

RE: Never Forget
I was getting ready to go on a guy's trip that afternoon with my Father, Brother-in-law and Nephew. Needless to say, the flight didn't take off. My wife was getting ready to go to work and had the Today show on when it happened. One of my best friends lived and worked very close to the twin towers. I tried to get ahold of him, but it was busy. Finally got ahold of his brother-in-law who had talked to him. He was at home in a conference call when the first plane flew so low over his building that it temporarily knocked out power and shook the building.

I was telling his brother-in-law my friend needed to get out of there. Before anyone was talking about the building falling, I was worried the buildings might fall and hit his place. I didn't know they pancaked. He said he needed to stay in place because there might be ground level terror. When he was in Vietnam, they would set off a bomb in a building and with everyone milling about outside, they would set off a bigger one outside where people had gathered.

Don't know if his building was one of the ones torn down or not, but it could not be occupied at least for months and he had to move elsewhere.

What happened in 1957 that you're referring to Coast Guard?

RE: Never Forget
I was driving into work in downtown Houston with my pregnant wife when we heard a live radio report of the 2nd plane crashing into the WTC. My wife works for a pretty prominent downtown Houston law firm (as a secretary) and they quickly dismissed her office because one of their clients is a member of the Bin Laden family and they had fears of an attack in downtown Houston.

Later that week, my company actually had a meeting in our New York offices just a few blocks from the WTC and we were on among the first flights that were flying when the air travel ban was lifted. Seeing the still smoldering wreckage along with all the signs looking for lost (and dead) friends and relatives was surreal. Our company's President killed himself a year after 9/11 - he was on the NYC streets when the planes struck and he was never the same. Neither was the company.

I was a 1st year in Ireland.

I remember finding out when we left school and got in my friend's mom's car. She was listening to it on the radio.

I'll never forget it.

That was 16 years after Pearl Harbor.

I was on a land surveying crew, staking out Brookhannah Court in Fuquay-Varina, NC. I remember my crew chief talking to the developer (a veteran) about what was going on. We were just in a state of shock thinking it was a bad accident until the 2nd plane hit.

It seems like this board has gotten "younger".
