MyBB CA 9/11/17 Interview With Tubby
http://www.commercialappeal.com/story/sp...651951001/

Highlights:
1. Tubby does not need validation from anyone. He thinks community does not care if he "won this game or did that". He thinks the community (in part) wants to know what he is doing to make the U of M better.
2. Tubby has never interviewed for a job because he projects an image through his dapper attire.
3. Tubby recruits players to fit his system and personality.
4. We will face LeMoyne-Owen for an exhibition game.
5. UNC will be our closed scrimmage opponent on 10/20/17.
6. The 3.15 summer session GPA is the highest summer session GPA experienced by Tubby.

My comments:
1. Tubby needs to understand that winning at the Memphis standard is the objective and not the nebulous goal of making us better.
2. Incredibly, we learned the key to making millions without job interviews is developing a keen fashion sense.
3. Tubby is more interested in players fitting to what he wants to do rather than fitting his system to the best players. It is part of the overall theme of Tubby doing things his way regardless of the damage to the program.
4. Kudos to Tubby, the U of M academic staff, and the players for their academic success.

RE: CA 9/11/17 Interview With Tubby
You kinda buried the lead on what seems to be the most telling thing, especially in light of those who were concerned that Tubby didn't do enough when he came in last year (with some good pieces) to bolster the roster to get the Tigers rolling:

The last key from McGuire, Smith said with a chuckle, is “don’t win too many too soon.”

“You want to build a program the right way, don’t win it all in the first year,” Smith added. “We did that at Kentucky. It can happen. But where do you go from there?”

From the Article:

The last key from McGuire, Smith said with a chuckle, is “don’t win too many too soon.”

“You want to build a program the right way, don’t win it all in the first year,” Smith added. “We did that at Kentucky. It can happen. But where do you go from there?”

Now we know what happened last season.

I figured he was joking, but maybe he meant it and used humor as a cover.

How so?

The construction of last year's team was a well discussed topic and even some people who have faith in Tubby acknowledged that last year's roster could have been built up a little better.

Perhaps Tubby's quoted statements about not building up expectations too early sheds some light on why the team was comprised the way it was last year.

Previously, Tubby stated we will be "a very good team" this season.

Tubby clearly thinks our team will be better than forecasted to date and will overcome the obstacles for success (e.g., lack of experience) impeding other teams. I disagree, but let's hope he is right.

He is a master at lowering expectations. Everything he does seems to be aimed at this goal. All I see is a person tearing the Memphis brand down another notch or ten with the claim that he knows what he's doing.

Fans who quote stats, exactly like we've always done, are now deemed unreasonable miserables.

I. don't. care. what anyone else says. I ain't going no where.

Show me what you got, Tubby. lol.

in the meantime, I'm a FOOTBALL fan
