RE: OT: Where Were You on This Day 16 Years Ago
I was walking past a hospital's small waiting area with a TV and no one there. I saw smoke coming from the first tower and just then came the second one. That eliminated any doubt as to the nature of the issue as it at first seemed like an accident. The days afterward with no aircraft flying seemed eerie. The Kennedy assassination, Reagan's assassination attempt, the space shuttle explosion, and 9/11 are forever etched into my memory in terms of stark memory of where I was and who I was with at those moments.

I also remember telling our 10 year old boy that we'd be going to war. He was terrified. Little did I know that 16 years later we'd still be at war. It has become perpetual it seems.

I was at work when I heard the reports. At first I thought it was an accident like the one during WWII when a bomber hit the Empire State Building.

I was in the 4th grade and i remember our teachers telling us some planes had crashed and to say prayers. My first though was "whats the big deal about a few plane crashes they happen all the time?"

It wasn't till i got home that i realized the extent and the truth of what rally had happened.

I was at work. I was working in a chemical plant with limited TV access; but we tuned into a news radio station and listened to the events as they played out. I was on pens and needles all day. Had to wait until I got home that evening before seeing the video footage.

For some reason I always thought you were in your mid-40s. Never would have guessed mid-20s. 04-cheers

I was at school. They showed us on TV. I actually wasn't too phased by it, surprised to be sure, but not fearful as was apparently the case with a lot of people (maybe it's cause I wasn't anywhere near the coast). I remember being more concerned when I got home and they had taken over all of the extended cable channels and put them into news coverage. I had a bad feeling about the state of my part of the country in the weeks afterward though. The uber-patriotism went a bit too far sometimes IMHO.

I was on the Kennedy Bridge heading to work in downtown Louisville, KY. I had the radio on and they came in with breaking news that a small airplane had crashed into the WTC.

I was a sophomore in college and my mom wass a nurse at st Jude children's hospital and called and woke me up to say a plane had hit one of the twin towers. I turned on the tv and was watching as the 2nd plane hit. It was the strangest thing I had ever seen. I could not process what I was watching.

I was standing watch in the engineroom of USS OKC, tied up to the sub pier in Norfolk, VA.

I remember, in the days that followed, having to calm down the topside watch so they didn't shoot at the C-5s coming in for a landing at the base's airfield - they used to line up on the sub pier in their approach.

RE: OT: Where Were You on This Day 16 Years Ago
I was on a flight from Atlanta to Dallas and landed after the first tower was hit. News was saying it was a horrible accident with a private jet or small plane. Got in my rental car at DFW and drove to office in Plano. When I got there, shhit had hit the fan. 3 days later I drove my rental car home to ATL from Dallas. I remember listening to SXM the whole way home and just so emotional from hate to pride and back and forth. Still makes me sick to my stomach.

I was on the way to work in Charlotte when I heard it on the radio. I also assumed it was an accident like the plane that hit the Empire State Building in WWII. Of course I knew when I heard about the second plane. I was trying to explain to a group of Mexicans who spoke little English what was happening.

My parents were at the WTC on 9/9. They returned to Greenville on 9/10.

RE: OT: Where Were You on This Day 16 Years Ago
On my way into the office. Train ran parallel to the Palisades on its way into Hoboken (there to transfer to the PATH to get into Manhattan). We saw that there was a fire at one of the towers. Someone had a radio or cel phone and said a plane struck the tower. My initial thought was "impossible, Manhattan is a no-fly zone".

By the time I got into the city the 2nd tower had been hit. My office was on 14th St. and 9th Ave, and I had a southern exposure. Spent my day looking out the window until we heard that the subways were running again. Had to get up to the GWB to get on a shuttle, then walk down one of the highways on the Jersey side until we could get on another bus the rest of the way home.

Very surreal in New York that day.
