RE: Barry Odom
Missouri is a dumpster fire and is only going to get worse. They have lost students, donations and it has even hurt recruiting because of all their safe space, protesting BS.

And just for the record... Odom was never really high on the list of candidates. When the initial interview lasted less than 15 minutes because Bowen laughed him out of the room with his first demand, they knew exactly who they wanted as coach.

I agree. If you're in the SEC you can hire a defensive guy and be successful (see Kirby Smart at Georgia) because you have the talent to line 'em up and play smash mouth between the tackles football. At schools like Memphis you need to compensate for your lack of talent by getting creative on offense.

In my best "Butch and Sundance" voices ---(WHO) are those guys ?

overall, I don't think Kirby Smart be be successful at Georgia. Want to see how well he does when Richt's recruits are gone. That, and Georgia fans will be applying a strict standard to him to be good...sooner than later.

You mean with better recruits? UGA had arguably its best recruiting class in several years in Smart's first year - 3rd ranked class in the country.

Rip Scherer was an offensive coach but he had a great defense and little offense.

Both of you are on the money.

Tim Walton was a great recruiter, and Tim Rose was a great DC. As was John Thompson.

Care to share what that first demand was? I'm intrigued...

hiring defensive coaches works out occasionally...Jimmy Johnson, Gene Stallings, Butch Davis, Pete Carrol, Jim Mora, Bob Stoops, Nick Saban, Mark Dantonio to name a few.

Ya, you are pretty much making my point....

Miami
Texas A&M then Alabama
Miami
USC
NFL coach
Oklahoma
Michigan State then LSU then Alabama
Michigan State

These are all schools that can go out and get exceptional defensive talent. Thus, it makes sense it can work out for them to hire defensive minded coaches. We cannot get defensive talent on par with these schools on a consistent basis. It is much easier to try and outscore opponents when you have less talent than it is to line up and go head to head in hopes of a 10-14 ball game.

I heard he wanted to bring Larry Porter in to run a public relations campaign.

RE: Barry Odom
Missouri is a mess. They have been in the bottom 4 for talent in the SEC since 2015. [1] They have no natural recruiting base in the Midwest. They play in the SEC East, which means they don't play any regional rivals outside of Arkansas.
That's a problem since parents do at least want to see their kids play in one game.

Add in the bad press from the protests, which pissed off both sides of the political spectrum. That job is the worst in the SEC.
