That was nice to see and they had Northern Illinois not UNI, not Northern Iowa, etc.

Saw that too. Will be a good showing for us on a national stage again. I believe they said Tim Brando would be calling the game. Good one to have.

It's interesting, filmy - everyone whines and moans that games HAVE to be on Saturday, yet we get a Saturday game with lovely weather and attendance is only mediocre. Do you think it's in the best interest of NIU to increase attendance by another 4K or so each home game and give up a national broadcast that the entire country can watch?

The ESPN deal is ruining Huskie football, right? How many people out there in Huskie nation were pitching a fit because they couldn't get a good feed on ESPN3? It's kind of nice to be able to tune in to your local cable provider or go to your neighborhood watering hole to watch the Huskies play.

I was walking through a major casino during the BC game and the Huskies were featured prominently on a number of television screens throughout the property. That matters. It's the same principle as advertising a product - top of mind awareness. We need that Huskie brand out in front of the consumers to keep our program relevant.

But enjoy your Saturday games and crappy streaming feeds while we watch our program slip back to the name recognition of, say, Arkansas State.

YES

(Even though I hate to disappoint the millions of NIU fans across this great land who have their eyes glued to our "national broadcasts".)

Why is national broadcast in quotes? The weekday MACtion games on ESPN and ESPN2 are televised across the country. If you fail to see why that is important, there is no point debating it. Arguing with an idiot tends to be a pointless venture leading to frustration.

But there is good news! If we do get all these non televised Saturday home games, at least the nation will be spared of looking at all these fat, old townies that make up the whopping additional 4K in attendance

RE: attendance
NIU now has another 1,000 less students overall then last year due to the 5% reduction in overall attendance. That has to be part of it.

RE: attendance
My attendance questions revolve around the empty chairbacks and benchbacks.

How many of these are sold season tickets?
For the sold seats did they tailgate and just not come to the game OR did they just not come for some other reason?

For the chairbacks and benchbacks not sold...why is athletics not selling these on game day only for a big-time premium...like $80 and $99 per seat? Not many but some people will pay that price for a single game just to sit in a "premium" section. I understand giving the donors only this access but give the public (who is willing to drop $80-$99 per ticket) a taste of the premium section.

Same thing goes for selling single game tailgating passes to the track, movie or Stevenson paved lot. Charge 50%+ of the yearly donation fee just for 1 game.

If this MACtion schedule keeps people away because they don't get a value out of a season ticket then have supporters pay extra for a single game.

RE: attendance
Probably a bit of the attendance drop is because people can watch it on TV now (or on E$PN), whereas back in the day it was not on TV.

The tickets aren't sold. A large portion of the season ticket holder base did not renew, or 'downgraded' their seating this past year.

The reasons NIU does not open up their premium seating is because they need to do what they can to protect current season ticket holders. You can't make a consumer pay one price for a 'premium' experience and then discount/adjust it for others. That being said, they should add as much value to that experience as they can. It could be making a donor guide/season ticket renewal form that is easy for anyone to comprehend, or moving the entire ticket operation online to desktop and mobile (after all it is 2017). Whatever it is, they need to start making data driven decisions. Our opinions are irrelevant until we look at the entire aggregate.

This is certainly the trend in sports. That is why teams have to continue to add value to their game experience. If you listen to Darren Rovell, he believes that the future of professional sports venues lies within much smaller stadiums/arenas that focus on premium seating and club options.

When you've only got two reachable, practical (for many people) games, you've rendered the entertainment value irrelevant, and a single nice day won't change that. Long before the weather forecast showed a beautiful weekend, people already made other choices because they aren't considering NIU football anymore.

Name recognition comes with success. Right now, the success isn't there, and coaches and A.D. should be held accountable.

My understanding as well. We are in that seating area and are being made aware of the ability to purchase more seats because there are so many openings.

Yea, you can't undo a decade of crap schedules with an occasional Saturday game against an FCS school.

I wonder if Athletics could be convinced to at least sell single game Chairback/Benchback seats to the Chairback/Benchback season ticket holders if they want to bring guests.

IMO the best idea would be to have a corporation "sponsor" an allotment of tickets, and provide them to local youth/non-profit organizations.

No thank you...if I am a chairback donor (I am not) I don't want any youth group sitting by me.

Those seat donations are for section A/G and the East side.

It is a sponsorship, not a write off. The point would be to target alumni, locals, business owners, etc. to come to their first game. The sponsorship would allow NIU to provide free tickets for the first game, free food the second game (person buys their ticket), and free premium club passes the third game (person buys their ticket). In return the corporate sponsor gets what can be agreed to, but you get the point. It's a sponsored program. It allows NIU to introduce its product to a new buyer where they are enticed to continue to buy.

When I say youth/non-profit organizations, I mean administrative members. A group of kids at a game is a band-aid fix (they don't have purchasing power).
