A bit about the Bruins
You may have already watched us, but here is a quick intro to the team this far.

QUARTERBACK

Rosen has lived up to the hype this year, but has also been lucky. He has thrown several potential picks, but has been beyond brilliant at other times. Your best bet is to pressure him, but he has gotten much better at getting rid of the ball quickly.

OL

It was a question mark going into the season, and is still an issue. The starting 5 are decent, but don't seem to be able to run block. We lost first-off-the-bench backup, and so there is ZERO quality depth. We are one injury away from going to mediocre to bad.

RB

We have been terrible at running the ball. It is partly OL and partly no RB has shown that much. Perhaps our best is Soso Jamabo, but he seems to have chronic back issues. We don't know if he will play.

RECEIVERS

So far they have been great this year. We don't have the elusive guy who can make 4 tacklers miss, but we have a bunch of guys who can get open and hold onto the ball. We scored TD's on 9 or 10 straight possessions, with no running game. The passing game is working.

DL

We are not big up front, so there are worries about stopping the run, but overall the DL has played very well this season. Lots of talent and depth. True freshman Jaelan Phillips is an absolute beast and will be a first round pick.

LINEBACKER

This wasn't a strength of our defense. In fact, our LB play was pretty poor. Now two of our starters may not play, at least the first half. One was called for targeting and is out for the first half. The other seems to have a concussion and (while UCLA doesn't release injury information) is unlikely to play.

That leaves us with some inexperienced LB's. We have had issues defending the run, and this will only make it worse.

DB

Our two of our best DB's were both knocked out of the Hawaii game, and with a knee issue and concussion, I would be surprised if either plays. BIG, BIG loss for us. The secondary has been our best defensive unit and we have probably recruited DB better than any other position, but we won't be as good.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Kicking has been pretty good. Kick coverage against A&M was bad and we had terrible field position most of the game. That hasn't seem to bother Rosen very much. So far we haven't shown much in the return game.

OVERALL

We have recruited well under Mora, usually with a top 10 caliber recruiting class. With our new OC, we seem to have the best group of coaches we have had in many years. We are talented at most positions other than OL, which is a long soap opera.

After a slow start, we have been pretty unstoppable on offense, at least through the air. We have no ground game to speak of.

Our defense has been pretty good, but we have been fortunate when A&M's QB went down and they became one-dimension. Hawaii was more successful against us on offense than the final score might indicate. With all the injuries, I expect you to move the ball against us.

They other big factor in your favor is the early start. West Coast teams don't usually do very well in games that start at 9 am PT.

My family and I are leaving Thursday, and we are looking forward to a very competitive game and seeing Memphis.

I think that does both ways. This could be a game where the first team to force a punt wins.

I think Norvell is going to want to run the ball all game and try and control time of possession

We are going to kill you.

Bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

Sorry, always wanted to do that.

Seriously, UCLA looks to be pretty good, easily the second best college team in LA.

Good analysis. Here's what you need to know about Memphis:

We played 7 teams last year that finished the season with a winning record. We gave up more than 40 points in six of those seven games.

As Tiger fans, we all hoped and prayed that the defense would improve this year. We had the best recruiting class in school history (#1 or #2 for the G5 schools). We played La Monroe in horrible conditions in Week 1, but the defense was uninspiring at best. Plus, we lost three starters with season-ending injuries.

I feel bad for our offense. The offense is legit good, but they'll have to score on nearly every possession to have a chance to keep us in the game against a team like UCLA. UCLA, meanwhile, can probably have an average game and still put up 50 on us. Not even kidding. If you don't score 40, something went wrong for you.

I don't have a lot of confidence in big games because of our defense. It has to get better. Doesn't matter how good our offense is if the D can't stop anyone. Go back and watch the first half of our bowl game against Western Kentucky. They had 5 first half possessions. I'll have you one guess as to how many TDs they scored. Hint: It was 5.

So, something like 100 over/under?

Seriously, we should score on the ground and the air. Maybe Pollard even returns a kickoff for a TD. But I've got a feeling the 3rd string UCLA lineman are more than a match for our first-teamers. I could be wrong. But I'm looking forward to being there for the fireworks.

03-shhhh

Also, don't tell anyone that a Hawaii team that had averaged about 200 yds/ game rushing vs UMass and Western Carolina, ran for almost 300 against UCLA at nearly 7 ypc.

Heavy dose of Henderson, Dorceus, Taylor in this one folks.

Keep it out of Rosen's hands and the defense off the field it would appear.
